A few of us already know the N95 has an in-built accelerometer (the automatic orientation of the photos is courtesy of the accelerometer). But what many didn't know is the possibility of using the accelerometer to do some really cool things.

Earlier this week, a video of the new version of the popular freeware application, RotateMe (http://bysamir.fr/rotateme/) appeared on dailymotion showing us the iPhone like landscape/portrait orientation changing on the N95. Here's the video of the software working.

Today, Nokia Research (http://research.nokia.com) released a demo application called MovingBall which lets you control the ball on the screen in all three dimensions by just moving your phone!!

Check it out for yourself by downloading it here (http://research.nokia.com/files/MovingBall_Example.sisx) or if you don't have an N95, watch this video to get an idea.

This demo however works only in the portrait mode at the moment but I guess this is just a problem with the developer's implementation and can be fixed easily.

There is a lot of potential in the future once more developers start coding applications making use of the accelerometer. A pretty cool use of this feature - shaking the phone to the right/left to goto the next/previous track or photo.

I am hoping to see more applications come out in the next few weeks that will change the way we use our N95s!! :)
