Is there a way to put custom contacts on the touch other then the ones on the phone or then using a pix that you take with the cam?.?.?.?

ummm yea the stock does it all you go is to edit under the contacts name asnd than you iwll see an option that says add picture and you choose the picture that you want.

Do we know what the best size for the pix would be?

when you're on the HTC camera mode on your phone there is actually an option for a contacts camera, after you take a picture in this mode it will auto-bring up your contacts and you can pick which one to apply it too. Average size for a contact picture is like 72 x 96
