Hello all,

I came here from the youtube videos like I know many of you did. I bout an HTC touch about 3 weeks ago (service is with Verizon) and I really like the phone. I saw the videos on youtube and decided I wanted to give some of things a try. Im an IT guy so I understand this kind of stuff, but this is the first phone mod I've ever attempted. I have a few questions before I mod my phone (I don't to accidentally brick it) that I couldn't find answers to (I tried searching and checked the noob section), so I figured I'd post. They are most general questions - nothing specific yet. They are:

1. Will the downloads from " D/\SH'S Touch Mods With Straight Downloads Updated 3-16-07" work with the Verizon version of the touch, and do I need it unlocked first?

2. If I do need it unlocked, is there a way for me to do it myself? And if there is a way to do it myself is there a thread explaining how? I tried searching for this too but couldn't find it.

3. Do I need windows mobile 6.1 to make these things work? The Verizon version comes with WM6 and as far as I know there is no update for this yet.

4. Even if I don't need WM6.1 is there a way for me to upgrade to it? If there is a way to upgrade to it, is it worth doing?

I think that pretty much covers it - thx in advance for the help.

1. yes all those apps minus the sprint specific ones like sprint nav, sprint tv will work with your device without it being unlocked

2. there is a simple unlocker that is run from your pc although you only need to unlock if you'll be flashing roms

3.you dont need wm 6.1

4. there is a way to get wm 6.1 you need to flash a rom we have a new sprint official rom that has wm 6.1 here, there are also many custom roms built off that sprint official one that are faster and more stable, there is a tutorial for flashing here (https://www.wckediden.com/showthread.php?t=153750&highlight=flashing) that has links to the unlockers and other tools you need to flash

Hope this helps,

Awesome! Thanks for the quick reply. Now I have just a few more questions!

1. I noticed some people doing some really awesome things with gps and want to try to do the same. The only thing gps wise verizon offers is VZNavigator (not available on the touch) and I was wondering what is entailed in setting up my phone to do the gps stuff like I have seen in other videos?

2. I'd like to try and stay away from flashing roms and what not (try to do things the easiest way possible) so as far as WM6.1 goes is there really any advantage to upgrading to that? I read some info about it and didn't see anything that seemed to be worth the upgrade, but with MS it's hard to seperate the bs from the applebutter as they say.

3. Any other general info or tips anybody can give me? Anything I should know specifically about trying any of this with the Verizon version of the touch?

Thanks again for all your help - the work everybody does here is awesome!

1. you can do tom tom or garmin just do a search for the one you want in green below the sites main banner and you will be golden.
2. its worth it to me since all custom roms are now based off 6.1 and it runs faster and is more stable.
3. just enjoy iy bro and start getting to know your phone and the site and you will have many things and different directions to go with your phone.

Ok, I read all the instructions and followed the tutorials and I'm stuck. I ran ImCokeMan's v2.31 unlocker and then ran the verizon rom listed here:

https://www.wckediden.com/showthread.php?t=163299&highlight=verizon

After I ran that the phone rebooted and is now stuck at the HTC screen. I'm not really worried about it if it's bricked - I can claim the insurance on it - but it would be cool to get it working. I tried a hard reset to no avail - any other ideas? I'm sure I'm just missing something or not doing something right - so thanks in advance for any help any of you have! :)

Ok, I figured out what I was doing wrong. I forgot to flash the radio update. I did that and then reflashed the https://www.wckediden.com/showthread.php?t=163299&highlight=verizon rom and all worked! I no longer am stuck at the HTC screen. However, once the phone is up and running I try to program it and it will not let me - any ideas?

if oyu said yourthrough verizon just follow thesteps.... after a flash or hard reset you got to call the number that they say and reactivate your phone... just tell them that you had to perform a hard reset.

all 6.1 roms have the gps built into the rom......... yes you can flash the oem form omj but be aware you NEED TO FLASH TO A GPS ROM!!!!!!!!! if you flash anon gps rom after being on one you risk your phone not waking up after it goes to sleep or bricking the device.
