What is a phone/pocket pc without a good ringtone..? Learn How to get the best ringtone at the best size!
How to set mp3 tones?
Your pocket pc has a capability of choosing wma files as ringtones as per the manual. But if you want to set mp3 tones, its really not a big deal! All your ringtones reside in the Windows/Rings. Copy your mp3 tone to this folder and navigate to Settings/Sounds & Notifications, you can now see the mp3 under the drop down menu. Choose it and enjoy.
How to move the Rings folder?
You wanted to have huge files as ringtones or even the small file size being in the Main memory annoying or killing your device? Well, you can change the default Rings folder from Main memory' Windows/Rings to Storage card/any directory by the simple registry tweak
{moscode}HKEY_CURRENT_USER/ControlPanel/Sound/Categories/RingDirectory
How to compress to best size?
First note that your pocket pc or most pocket pc devices have a single loudspeaker. And so there will be no point in having a Stereo ringtone! Stereo tones take double the size of mono! And 64kbps quality would be enough for a decent ringtone. Hope this little help makes you reduce your tone to half its original size!
How to make my own tones?
Its rather simple. First you need an Audio editor. I recommend Goldwave (http://www.goldwave.com/), its free or the shareware can be used forever. Open your Music file in it and you will see the waveform. Now choose the part of the music file which you want to have as your ring tone. Cut and Paste new. So the new file' length will be the size of your previously cut length. Finally Save As and apply the mono and 64kbps setting for best size. If you are a little expert, you may cut and edit files, improve volume, remix sounds and make an unique tone! Go Play!
