Ok so I have been scouring the internet trying to find the fix to this problem (I even called HTC (alltel isn't open sundays apperently)). My 6800's wi-fi will not work. It will not find any wireless networks at all. I flip the wi-fi switch on and it gives me the little "wi-fi on, but no available wireless network" icon at the top. I know my house has a wireless network because I am running 3 computers wireless right now. The computer I am typing on is hooked up via wireless. So my question is am I doing something wrong? Why is my wi-fi not working?

Thanks

EDITE: I have also done a hard reset twice and it still does not work. Also this phone is not activated yet but HTC said that that doesn't matter.

Suppose there really isn't much I can do about that hu? I guess I will have to get my money back and get another phone.

nope not too much really.... hasve you tried to mess with the switch to make sure that it isnt just loose or something? or tried it with it turned off? or tried it through the communications manager?

The switch turns it on technically because the logo pops up but as far a being connected I get nothing. I don't even have the option of turning the wireless radio on or off in the comm manager.

huh yeah def sounds like a hardware issue since as you said you hard resetted the device which should have cleared the error/problem up....

Well I emailed the person that I bought the phone from and he said he called alltel and that I should get it activated first. I don't see how this would help unless the phone is programed to unlock the wi-fi abilities when it is activated. I guess I will give that a try tomorrow seeing as how I can't seem to speak to a real person at alltel today.

I actually have a second question. Alltel isn't going to make me get a smart choice plan because I have a smartphone right? I did not buy it from them at there discount price.

Thanks

they might but might not... depends on the rep that you get.... but most likely they will.

and the guy who sold it to you is either wrong or lied to you because the wifi is straight hardware. your phone needs no activation for it to work.

Well he really wants me to get it activated so I am going to humor him. He seams like he is going to work with me after that though so if I have a problem after I get it activated I should be able to get this resolved.

Ok guys I called the person that sold it to me and I am sending it back to him tomorrow but I do have another question.

I went to my local alltel dealer and the rep there told me I could not activate this phone without a smart choice plan. We I told him what I knew and then he said I could activate it but it is very "risky". They said (I am talking to two of them at this point) that you don't always know if you are connected through alltel data connections and that he has seen people come back with $800 bills for a month. My question is, if I activate this a ppc6800 on just a normal nationwide plan am I going to get huge bills because I forgot to turn something off?

Thanks

if you dont want the data package all you have to do is tell them to block it on your account and they can do that for you quickly and easily :>

So they can block all data connections to my phone? How come the guys at my local alltel dealer were making such a huge deal about me accidentally raking up huge charges because of unknown data connections?

cause they are gay.... tell them you dont know what data. means... or how a charge occurs.... you just were using a phone like you would a ipod..... Damn thats some good shit

Hmm maybe I should just stick to talking to alltel over the phone seeing as how they seem to be a bit more reliable. Allas I will not be able to be using a ppc6800 untill later next week seeing as how I have to pack this one up and ship it back. O well at least he was cool about it. Thanks for all the help guys. I will post if I need anymore.

Hey guys again. I have some more questions. Does anyone know if htc has come out with updated version of the ppc6800 to fix hardware issues or anything? The reason I am asking is if I buy a ppc6800 off ebay am I going to get maybe an older version/build of the phone and have issues? Thanks for all the help already.

Well I just bought one off ebay (again) and the lady said it was only a couple months old so I should be good to go. Hopefully I don't have any problems. I also called alltel about disabling data and internet and she said it was not problem. I still don't know why the guys at my local alltel store freaked when I told them I wanted to activate a smartphone on a nationwide plan. You would think they know stuff like this.

Thanks guys.

Ya I got all my money refunded which is good. I really don't even think the guy new what wi-fi was though because he got it back and said the phone works just fine. I am pretty sure he thinks wi-fi is just the phone portion of the device. I actually got this new one about $50 cheaper then the other one so that was pretty sweet (thank you ebay and your 10% off coupon code). Again you guys have been a huge help.

I thought it was a bit strange as well but yes they do. The deal ends on the 30th so if you are planning on buying something off ebay I would do it soon. Apparently when the seller receives the full price of whatever you bought ebay then refunds you 10%.

I think I bought the phone that this guy had and then returned. Does anyone know how to replace the wifi hardware or is it part of the main board on the phone that can't be fixed?

Thanks

if it was its a main board problem..... and is it from the same seller???? and damn the odds would be strange that two members here on Wckediden got the same defective phone.
