I decided to maybe start a thread for all the fixes or workarounds we find. My first was the

-Hard reset,

Power phone down

Hold Home and Back keys at same time

Without releasing Home and Back press the end call button (which is the power button) and release the end call button.

You should still be holding home and back and now a screen will come up asking for an action. Press the trackball to reset or back to cancel.

Press trackball then it will ask you to press menu to reset and it will be factory original!

-Fix typos,

Click the gear bottom left of ur kb and go to bottom and calibrate the kb.

Type it like u regularly type and many of ur typos will b in the past!

It was night and day 4 me. I love that the keyboard does what I want not me trying to work around it!

-# of characters typed in SMS

Chomp SMS or Handcent will give you the ability to see how many characters you typed.
You can turn off the messages notification when using these apps so you don't have 2 notifications for the same message.

-Speech to Text

Handcent also does Speech to Text, so we can use that now!

-Pop up style SMS

Sms Popup and Handcent will allow you to have messages "pop-up" and reply to them without having to go into phone and open messaging app.

-Fix phone Hero not sleeping problem, workaround. Thanks to nebula, here is the post.

- Assign Ringtones to categories, thanks askym,

- Have some sounds on your phone that you don't want in the media player app? Try this from fildrigar,

- Need a new battery?

I found out that the batteries between the Touch Pro 2 and the Hero are interchangeable! You can get a factory one on ebay for 35 dollars or you can get a non oem one for around 8 dollars.

Feel free to post in with your tip and I will try to keep this thread updated.

staff will keep this updated and was originally found here:

All this and any additional info is helpful. I feel I'm grasping pretty quickly, but always learning something new and this is another great resource for those that know a little and can stay up to date and for those that know nothing can stay ahead on the rest of the crowd.

So do you think its a good idea to do a hard reset even if you are having intermittent errors? my battery isnt horrible but could be better. would a hard reset possibly help out?

was it better at a time? are you tinkering with it more asnd more often... have you made sure that even if your backlight is off that the phone went into sleep mode?

one noob question... wat would make the difference between an oem battery and a non one?

i would NEVER use an non oem battery in my phone, they leak and explode thus ruining your phone, the battery life is also crappy.... always go oem in my opinion.

Just picked up the phone yesterday and love it (my touchscreen on my mogul quit working).

I was wondering if anyone knew of a program that I could tether my laptop to the hero for internet service(internet sharing?)

thanks.

At the moment this is probably the best solution:

Their is a WiFi tether program, but you need to have your phone rooted and currently that is not available on the CDMA side, only GSM, because it's been out longer and they've had time to tinker ;)

Good Luck

Hey Dash, I tired accessing the page and it looks like I cannot access the page: it thinks I am trying to modify a post or that my account does not have proper access privileges.

haha, I know we look the same and all, but I'm not Dash. I'm sure Dash appreciates ya ;D lol

The reason you cannot access yet is you need to get 80 posts in, so you're granted more privileges. Best thing is to participate in various threads with input and of course you can go to some of the forum games and get some additional posts applied there. It's actually pretty easy. You can do that or pay and become a Premium Member/Gold Supporter and you will get instant access. If you look at my sig and follow the links you will can read up on some of the various rules and ways of getting around. Good Luck.

may want to update your profile to reflect that you have the hero and not the mogul any longer.

I read this in the instruction booklet:

Mobile Network Sharing
Your device's data capabilities as a modem for your laptop computer. You can send and receive email and browse the Internet anywhere on the Nationwide Sprint Network.

Important:You need to install HTC Sync(pg45) before you can use mobile network sharing.

1. Make sure your device's data connection is turned on. See Getting Started with Data Services to learn how to turn on the device's data connection.
2. Connect the device to the computer using the provided USB cable.
3. Press the home key>menu>and tap Settings>Wireless controls.
4. Select the Mobile network sharing check box.

Note:When using mobile network sharing, the USB mass storage feature is disabled. Also, you will not be able to use HTC Sync.

Also listed on HTC Hero Forum - phone as modem (http://www.htc-hero.com/index.php?topic=219.0&sms_ss=google)
