if you google you can find it free. :p
it will still work just says unregistered

THEN
three step guide
1. download mIRC
2. type /server <server>
3. /join #channel
or you can use a java based client such as

http://java.freenode.net/

notice right now the java based way is haviing server issue. was working fine this morning. should be fixed soon...
