It was only a matter of time before Amazon revealed its first color e-ink Kindle. After all, color e-ink technology has been in the works for years, with color e-readers from smaller manufacturers hitting the market since 2021. In fact, earlier this year, Kobo, one of the major players in the e-reader (https://www.androidauthority.com/best-e-ink-tablet-3230616/) space, jumped on the bandwagon with its color e-ink lineup, including the Kobo Clara (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D1KWK8WY?tag=androidautho-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1) and Kobo Libra Color (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CZXX465Z?tag=androidautho-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1).

Amazon is late to the color e-ink party, but the Kindle Colorsoft leaves much to be desired.

As a self-proclaimed Kindle (https://www.androidauthority.com/which-kindle-model-do-i-have-1073996/) enthusiast who owns every generation of Amazon’s flagship e-readers, I’ve been eagerly waiting for the day Amazon would unveil its vision for the future of e-readers. But now that it’s here with the launch of the Kindle Colorsoft (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CN3XR57P?tag=androidautho-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1), I’m not rushing to upgrade. Here’s why.
