Google formally welcomes Gemini Extensions for Spotify, Utilities, Messages, and Phone.
These have already been spotted showing up on devices over the past few days.
Google teases that the Home Gemini Extension may be leaving preview soon.

Google is making a tremendous investment in AI systems right now, and Android users have been getting to enjoy the fruits of those efforts by way of the company’s Gemini AI assistant (https://www.androidauthority.com/what-is-google-gemini-3331678/). Beyond just getting better at communicating with us thanks to new modes like Gemini Live (https://www.androidauthority.com/cooking-with-gemini-live-3497800/), Google’s been working to build out Gemini’s capabilities with the introduction of new Extensions (https://www.androidauthority.com/gemini-extensions-3477277/) — tools that let Gemini interact with existing apps and services, both Google and non-Google alike. In addition to the new Pixel Drop arriving today, Google’s also sharing news about its latest Gemini-powered features for Android, including some new Extensions.

The big news here is Spotify getting its own Gemini Extension. We’ve known this has been coming for a while, and just last week saw Google get its Spotify Extension support page (https://www.androidauthority.com/spotify-gemini-extension-rolling-out-3503344/) up early, but today the company finally goes official with the news.

There are some important limitations here, like how you’ll be unable to have Gemini create Spotify playlists, but even if it won’t generate new ones for you, it can definitely try to find existing playlists based on your requests. You can also have it search for lyrics, find music that fits the vibe for different activities, or just straight up tell it to play specific songs or artists.

In addition to formally welcoming Spotify to the Gemini Extension family, Google’s reminding us about Extensions for Utilities, Messages, Phone, and updates to Maps. Much like Spotify itself, the cat’s out of the bag already on these guys. The Utilities Extension (https://www.androidauthority.com/gemini-utilities-extension-rolling-out-widely-3505427/), for example, we saw start rolling out widely earlier this week, just utterly packed with new Gemini functionality. With this you can control timers and alarms, adjust phone settings, pull up websites in Chrome, and a whole lot more.

Utilities isn’t alone there, and the Extensions for Messages and Phone have also been showing up on our devices over the past few days. The Messages support (https://support.google.com/gemini/answer/15574940?hl=en) is a little bare bones, focusing just on sending texts with Gemini — it won’t read incoming messages to you, or let you add images or recordings to outgoing ones. The Phone Extension (https://support.google.com/gemini/answer/15575143) offers to make “natural and conversational” calls on your behalf in a way that sounds like it’s basically the next evolution of Google Duplex (https://www.androidauthority.com/what-is-google-duplex-869476/).

Going forward, Google hints that the Home Extension (https://www.androidauthority.com/google-home-gemini-extension-3496007/) for Gemini could be wrapping up its preview and rolling out widely in the near future and tells us to expect “more information about places” when using Gemini with Maps.
