HTC Touch from Telus in Canada - No Wifi ???
 

Hi everyone,

i just got my HTC Vogue from Telus in Montreal (Canada) and there is no support for Wifi. I was under the impression that Wifi came standard with the P3050 ???

I called HTC and the rep told me that the hardware is there but that Telus probably desabled the software support.

Can anyone confirm and if this is true, can anyone help me enable Wifi ???

yessir this is true. it can be activated but in canada i dont think you will be gtting rev a roms any time soon for your phones which will activate the wifi. and you would have to turn it on through the communications mananger since there is no hard button to do so like the mogul. so hopefully the rev a will come out for you soon...here in america we get it in janurary or feburary well most do i already got it lol .

Hey guys,

it doesn't seem to work ???
I copy the cab in my start menu and start the install but it gives me the following message "Installing of S1-wifi_0.1_DELO.CAB was unsuccessful" ???

Am i doing something wrong ?

dont copy cab to start menu and make sure you install to device and also do a soft reset b4 and after the install see if that help if not get back to me

Hey !!! just installed and i now have a WLAN icon in my comm manager !!!

I think thats a good sign rite ???

yessir it is click on it and see if it works it shoud turn a color and not have the x through it if it worked

it's me again ha ha :)

ok i got ANOTHER problem for you 2

i also live in Canada and they block the WIFI on my touch, so i'm trying to enable using this CAB FILE that tigerz posted but... I'm GETTIN AN ERROR it says it was unsuccessful

I LOADED THE CAB FILE TO THE DEVICE AND TRIED INSTALLING TO THE DEVICE and thats the error i get

Can someone tell me where i can manually install these files, EXACTLY WHERE IN THE DEVICE I MUST PASTE THEM?

or post a CAB FILE THAT WORKS,

IM RUNNING WINDOWS XP, could that be the problem?

i will load one up to docushare tonight when i get a chance but right now im at work and dont have the abillity to download files unless dash can do it right now i will get to it later thx for understanding

is there a way i can manually install these files?

when i extract these files on my desktop using either winzip or winrar

i get an error saying..

The archive is corrupt

did you try from the rapidhsare link since i got the error when i tested the attachment but the rapidshare link worked with no problems. its the xp vista issue that a lot of forums are experiencing

successfully got it to install on to the device

now to try the wifi

for some reason when u d/l thru rapid share it works

and when u dont it doesnt

as i said above its a conflict with zipping from either xp or vista and if your using the opposite of what was used by that person you will get the problem

so in the comm Manager there is a NEW ICON with the WLAN on it with an X through it

i try to access WLAN setting but nothing happens


any ideas?

if it doesnt enable it and goes back to having the X through it that means that wifi isnt able to be enabled on yur phone at this time even if it does have the attena built into it. it will have to be unlocked by your provider in a rom release or a mod that is in the works.

when u say touch phone in the us if you are refering to the sprint vouge one no it doesent because the wifi is stripped out of the system

Hey guys,

i tried the file and the same thing happens. I press the WLAN icon in the comm manager and the X come srite back on it...

So i'll have to wait for the ROM revision i guess ... :39:

Any idea when we can expect a release for this ?

not sure ill look into it and see what i can find for you since the canadian release dates are alot different than the ones we have in the united states through sprint.

I downloaded the cab file and installed it to my touch and the wifi logo is in the comm manager but how do you set up the wifi connection

ook through the manual first i dotn have a cnadianversion of the gsm touch it might not even have a wifi antenna... this was testing to see if it did since i dont have one to take apart.

Probably because this thread is from 07 & and were in 09 ... the link is probably dead and needing to be re-up'd... give dash and Tigerz sometime and once they see this thread active again, theyll probably repost for you...

this is from way back when before we knew that the touch dint have the necessary hardware to run and support wifi..... so this wont work sorry...

Dude... did you read any of this thread... not even the whole thing, just the last 3 or 4 post before this...

there is no wifi for the touch... The touch is incapable of wifi, with or without the cab....

someone should recyle this thread to avoid all of this...

no i just stated 4 posts ago or so that there isnt the internals there to make this phone wifi capable. this is not possible for the cdma users only the gsm users of the device where wifi is built into the device.
