Hi Dash -- I've two quick questions for you:

1) Is Unit ID the same as Device ID or Card ID (will be installing to card)?
2) I've experimented a little with the keygen and don't see where to save as "sw.nl' -- am I to create this as a text file from scratch, and if so, can you show me what its contents should look like?

Thanks - your efforts are appreciated.

actually that was a typo you have to save it to sw.unl and put it in your garmin directory in your storage card .then take the card out wait 2 sec then do a soft reset. and boom you are set. to go

Hi wcked - typo affirmed. Thanks.

How is sw.unl created and what should its contents look like?

When navigating to Garmin's settings/about to get a Unit ID for the keygen utility, do I use the Device ID or Card ID as the Unit ID? <whew!>

the way i did it was open you notepad copy and paste the serial to the notepad the save as"sw.unl", now go to your active synce open explore look for storage card then once you find garmin folder just put that sw.unl file inside the garmin folder...ok then you take the card out wait 2 sec then put it back in after that do a soft reset and you are good to go.also what you will be lookin for is unit id

yes because a word document saves as a .txt which stands for text file.

You now need to rename sw.unl.txt to sw.unl

remove the .txt and leave it as sw.unl so it should be sw.unl not sw.unl.txt

thansk for this. this is for the american maps fo rthose that dont know. Go to this site and follow the instructions given.
http://jinxinlove.blogspot.com/2007/...on-garmin.html

I used the above linked app to get Garmin Mobile XT installed. You may have a different method or already have the program. If so, proceed to the next 2 downloads.
GARMIN1.rar (762.94 MB)
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=MI6L7MMT
GARMIN2.rar (677.81 MB)
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=A37R1CN9

Download the files from the links above and install the program. Install on PC only. This will install City Navigator North America 2008 nonNT.

Once you install, use the appropriate registry entry for your operating system before you launch the program. Connect Mogul using activesync. Once connected, launch the program you installed (MapSource). Click on Utilities and get your Unit ID. You will need to use this with your keygen. Launch the Keygen. Enter your Unit ID in space provided and click generate to get your GM XT device unlock code. On same keygen screen, look for Select Map Product. Scroll down and select custom map set. A small window will open asking you to input the Map ID code. Enter 243 in this field. This will unlock the detailed maps for the US and I believe Canada. Scroll or pan around to where you want to have detailed maps. Once you select or highlight an area, hit the send to device button and you're good to go. If you have any questions or problems, I'll do what I can to help. I have tested and use this on my Mogul and it works flawlessly.

Dead serious. i saw the question asked. i saw WHAT to do with the keygen generated key, and i get all that. But I don't see WHAT to put into keygen as the Unit ID in the first place. And I don't see a "read-me".

These files shouldn't be corrupt but in the case that 1 or 2 of them are, I have a par set that will repair them. I'll keep checking to see how everybody is doing.

This URL doesn't seem valid. The "..." in the URL is the same in the actual shortcut - if you hover your mouse over that link, the URL doesn't expand, it includes the "...". Take a look at the webpage's source. http://www.anonym.to/?http://jinxinlove.blogspot.com is valid, though, but don't know where to go from there.

Re: Garmin Mobile XT for WindowsMobile V4.20.20wp

Connect your device using activesync.
Run Mapsource.
Click on Utilities---->Get Unit ID
Once you get your Unit ID, place it in the top line of the Keygen.
Get your GM XT Device Unlock Code and copy to cliwckedoard.
Go to Utilities and paste that 25 digit code into Mapsource.
On same keygen screen, look for Select Map Product.
Scroll down and select custom map set. A small window will open asking you to input the Map ID code.
Enter 243 in this field.
Get the map unlock code and enter that 25 digit code into Mapsource the same way you did your GM XT Device Unlock Code
This will unlock the detailed maps for the US and I believe Canada. Scroll or pan around to where you want to have detailed maps. Once you select or highlight an area, hit the send to device button and you're good to go. If you have any questions or problems, I'll do what I can to help. I am never prompted for a Map ID code, so I can not enter 243 in this field. After getting my GM XT unlock code, etc., I select the map product City Navigator North America NT 2008, but no window opens. I only have the option to generate a key. FWIW, I am using keygen v1.3.

Update: I was choosing the complete North America map product and didn't select custom. Will try again. Thanks.

2nd Update: Not mentioned was whether to register the product -- in all cases, I opted not to. Anyway, I selected the lower portion of Canada and all of the continental U.S., clicked on the send to device button, and received an error, asking that I copy the log and send it to Garmin (which I didn't). The log is attached.

Make sure you select Custom Map Set. I've never used Mapsource until I downloaded it. Play around with it and you'll get it working exactly the way you want.

Yes. This program is the Mapsource program you'll need to get US maps. It will allow you to unlock maps in V4.20.20wp as well as the older version V4.10.40w. I just checked the first link and the download worked for me. Try checking again.

Re: Garmin Mobile XT for WindowsMobile V4.20.20wp

I never selected the entire continental US. I did the entire east coast and some of the mid US. Try selecting a smaller area to test or break the areas up that you want to transfer. Also, make sure that you use the correct registry file for mapsource for either XP or Vista. That may cause an error if not done.

There is a map select tool near the toolbar. It's shaped like a polygon. Mine is located right under the help menu. Select that tool then select the state in which you live in. Send those files over to phone. Run Garmin on phone with GPS signal to test. It should work. I've done it on 4 phones so far and no probs.

I never selected the entire continental US. I did the entire east coast and some of the mid US. Try selecting a smaller area to test or break the areas up that you want to transfer. Also, make sure that you use the correct registry file for mapsource for either XP or Vista. That may cause an error if not done.

I used the non-64bit reg version (not specifically XP-labeled) for Vista (32-bit). I just tried selecting Albany, NY (not even the whole state), and see:

Connect your device using activesync.
Run Mapsource.
Click on Utilities---->Get Unit ID

Mark it may be something with Vista. I'll check around and see what I can find might be the problem.

Edit: Mark, download this patch from Garmin's website and see if that fixes the problem with Vista. Several people have had the same problem you are having with Vista.
http://www8.garmin.com/support/downl...ils.jsp?id=209

Read up on it to make sure the problems this patch fixes are the problems you're having.

Hey will, is map source within the 2 rar files i downloaded, i found a setup.exe... is that it?

Will7272 03-16-2008 03:07 PM

Re: Garmin Mobile XT for WindowsMobile V4.20.20wp

You'll need to place the contents of the 2 files you downloaded into one folder. (Extract them to the same folder.) Then extract the entire program. Once you do that, you'll see the exe to use to install.
