Re: Skype 2.2

Please forgive me, but I've searched through the Skype forum and the multiple posts here that talk about Skype and the question begs repeating: does the latest version of Skype Mobile (the one attached to this thread) work on the Mogul running Windows Mobile Professional 6.1? This thread appears to be the most recently posted, so maybe someone can describe their experiences with me. If you've had success, please indicate if you installed on your device or storage card. Thanks!

Yours,
Ren

Thanks, I really appreciate the confirmation! I'm glad I decided to search this thread to see whether anyone had responded, because I otherwise wouldn't have found your reply. For some reason, I haven't been getting email notices whenever someone responds to something I've written here.

I do apologize my friend...but I know that I have the same version as you and I did consult with skype tech evangelists, experts, and moderators within the skype website within their community forums...and I know we have the same versions posted on our threads...and I do apologize for stepping on your toes...I just thought you may have failed to realize I had this posted up already...

With all the confirmations I received through this thread telling me that this latest version of Skype works on the HTC Mogul, I was really looking forward to using it at last. Unfortunately, I'm having the same issues -- I can successfully place calls, but I can't hear the person I'm calling and they can't hear me.

This is what I did:
1) I downloaded and extracted the RAR file from this thread and dumped the CAB file onto my desktop.
2) Using ActiveSync, I moved the CAB file to a temporary directory on my storage card.
3) On my phone, I launched the CAB from the storage card. When asked where I wanted to install the program, I chose Device.
4) I was told Skype installed successfully.

When I proceeded to launch Skype from the Programs folder where its icon was located, it automatically signed me into my account. Of course, this should've been impossible because I had already uninstalled a previous version of Skype. I have since uninstalled again, but is there anything that isn't being uninstalled? Also, does it matter from where I launch the CAB file?

Thanks,
Rene

I'm quite certain you're right, Matt. I did some more digging through the Skype forum and came across a message from one of their technicians that suggested deleting the Skype folder in the Applications Data folder and to look through the Programs and Windows directories and delete any file that begins with skype. Then reinstall the CAB and that should do it. I found and successfully deleted the Skype folder from the Application Data folder, but this was the only reference to Skype that I could find, even with the Show Hidden Files option enabled. I'll report back with my results. I hope it works, because doing a hard reset would hurt.

Thanks,
Ren

Re: Skype 2.2

Well, even after removing the Skype directory from Applications Data and reinstalling Skype, nothing changed. Installation went smoothly like the very first time; I was asked for my user name and password, as well as for my connection settings, which I select Wi-Fi with G3 or something like that. Still, no sound.

Any other alternative aside from doing a hard reset that probably won't work either? Could there be a compatibility issue between Skype and One of my Swcked products?

those are definately the steps and it should be working fine, accordingly... which leads me to believe the problem comes from elsewhere... are you having any problems with any other application

Nope, my phone works beautifully And I'm not getting any unusual problems with my short list of applications. Every now and then, the EVDO icon will be replaced with a 1X icon. When this happens, using SkyFire doesn't work because my connection to the Internet isn't there. So what I do is check my email manually (which usually fails the first time) and then try again and then the connection works and the EVDO icon comes back and my Internet connection works great. Even SkyFire works blazing fast.

Every time I've tried Skype, I've made certain everything is working well. I just don't understand what it could be. Any other ideas? We should compare installed applications.

Thanks,
Ren

well that's your problem there, you shouldn't have to go through all that to connect online through skyfire.. whne i click on my icon (skyfire) i connect right away, somehow your internet connection settings is screwed ..ii think that's why you are having issue with skype. and maybe others.

I'm using the new ROM that HTC released that upgrades the Mogul to Windows Mobile 6.1. I noticed a significant improvement in overall performance after the upgrade, but I can see that you're wondering if it's got something to do with the ROM. What ROM are you using? Thousands are still problems with Skype, making me wonder what ROM they're using.

Thanks,
Ren

As I mentioned before, this problem of having to go through several steps to get my Internet connection to fire up is rare. Usually. The EVO icon is present and SkyFire will start without problem. Of course, whenever I start SkyFire, I always get a pop-up window that reads "Connecting to Internet using 777...". I'm assuming this is common for everyone unless they have their phone configured to be continuously connected to the Internet through MSN Messenger or have the phone checking for email constantly, but such a configuration is really draining on the battery. How is your phone configured? What ROM are you using?

Thanks,
Ren

Well, I have had no luck getting this working on mine. It looks like a clean install, and I have never installed another version of skype. Everything seems to wrok great. Except calls.
