* place the phone on the flat surface
* press the "calibrate" button
* save this calibration and thus save the state of what you mean by "flat surface"

This came with the Touch Pro but not my Diamond

the reason is because the diamond and the touch pro have the accelerometer/g-sensor/tilt sensor and no others do cdma wise on a ppc.
