Video playback on the TouchPro (as well as on other Mobile devices in general) depends pretty much on many factors:
1. Video Format and Container
2. Video Bitrate
3. Audio Bitrate
4. Combined (general file) Bitrate
5. Video size
6. Processor speed
7. Video acceleration
8. Device/Internal/SD Card Storage speed

Doing some thinking about each of the points above will take you to a conclusion which will give most of you the answer as to why Blackstone (or any other Mobile device) will not - by far - play back video files that your PC or Notebook can (Hint: think about Processor, RAM and Disk Access) and as to why is conversion needed.

We can't really do pretty much with the Processor speed and Video acceleration (well, we aren't talking about overclocking here and we aren't referring to the so much discussed driver issue either), but can tweak Video Format and Container, Video/Audio/Combined Bitrate and Device/Internal/SD Card Storage speed.

You don't need to activate or tweak anything, it just makes your SD card access 3 times faster!

To check these wild claims use SKTools 5 supplied here, within there is a benchmark program to test key paramenters like Video speed and Memory Card speeds, run benchmark a few times to get a consistant reading.

To find the Bench mark Program: Click Catagory at the bottom, then Information, then you will find the benchmark program.

1) Turbo charge your micro SD card.

This simple program written by XDA developers will increase the read speed of your micro SD card by a facter of 8 !

Benchmark before program: Read Speed: 2,000 approx
Benchmark after program: Read Speed: 16,000 approx

2) Turbo charge your graphics

Within SkTools5 there is a program called Optimize, it is under the first catagory : Standard. It will automatically pick 3 settings that can be adjusted, tick Font Cache Size and TCP window size. Then click the Action button at the bottom, make sure Performance is ticked and then click Optimize. The program will then do a soft reset.

Using Benchmark: Draw bitmaps: before Optimize: around 180, pathetic ! a 5 year old can draw faster than that.
Using benchmark: Draw bitmaps: after Optimize : around 780 - wow ! i-robot speed ha ha

Thats 4 X graphics - its smokin !

3) General performace tweaks

Schaps_AdvancedConfig_v2.0.2.0.CAB

Using Advanced Configuration settings, under performances check these settings.

File System Cache: Enabled
File System cache size: 8mb
File system filter cache: 16384 sectors
Glyph cache: 32 kb

The effect of all these tweaks and enhancements means I can play 800 x 480 video perfectly just like TV, and Touch 3D is silky smooth and fast.

These are not idle claims, my device has vastly improved performance all round, I am finally happy with my device, it rocks, bring on that iphone and our 'cuz' the Touch HD.

Hey man thanks for the post. I was wondering if someone with a pro could post the differences on the video rendering. Mine was 780 before the tweaks and after. No change. My SD card went from 2000 to 7000. I am supposing the results are based on what class of card it is to begin with. Dash could you maybe post the differences on your PRO?

did you follow every detailed instruction? are you sure you didn't apply the setting b4 you ran the benchmark test?....i did it on my touch and it just blows me away....

i dont see what setting to check its blank under that do i need these settings or does it work with out them??

those settings are alreay checked with a green check mark but you can change them by clicking on them.....

i ran mine sd tune up cab before i ran the test and then i uninstalled it and ran it again and its doing nothing, also do i need to do all the steps before i rerun the benchmark?

ok what do you mean it's doin nothing? it's not installing, it's not loading the app?, what? did you soft reset after uninstall then reinstall...give us some more details.
and as long as the sd benchmark test reads above 15000ish it means it was successfull....

well i have a mogul and i did everything and it went up about to like 5500-5800 but yeah i unistalled it and then reset and then reinstalled the tune up on to the phone storage and it said that it installed correctly but i didnt see an actuall program for the sd tune up

Well, run the benchmark test and see what it says. Like taylor said, if its up in the 10-15k range then its working fine:)

the tune up is what the installation does. There is no actual application interface for you to use. It does it's job without any necessary tweaking like stated in original post.

installed it to your device or to your storage disk. And are you sure that you even completely uninstalled it in the first place?

Windows media player but I know I need a new one I just got my first movies today though. This tweak jacked up my RAM usage by like 7% though I hope that's normal.

thats the problem right there...... WMP is garbage... you will want to look into core player or TCPMP if you are into watching movies on your ppc.

yes that normal jsut like it would on a pc..... the more you are doing the more the cpu will spike.

hey iv reflashed my phone a few times because of slight errors, but iv installed and reinstalled this tune up and i can never get over 5500k i still dont know whats goin on because even when i use tcpmp it still gets choppy. any takes on why the sd tune up cab isnt working properly?

i could play pretty much any video no problems expect for the high quality youtube FLV videos which are 900 kb/s. they were usually choppy but after these tweaks, there is definitely an improvement.. i would say 90% which is pretty good..

hey team..

slight word of warning here with this particular adjustment:

File System cache size: 8mb

If you're running a Titan/Mogul with a custom WM6/6.1 rom, i suggest making this 4mb max because the Titan only has 64 megs of ram as opposed to the devices like the touch, touch diamond/pro which have 128megs and upwards of ram, where you can afford to have the cache size pretty decent

If youre running touchflo2d like me on a Titan with around 21 megs free ram on boot.. this now drops to about 11 on boot with this adjustment and touchflo2d usage hits 90% making the whole OS laggy.

Keep it 4mb max and youll have touchflo2d running with normal usage (so no lag overall on the OS) and around 16mb free on fresh boot. I can live with this because i use a ram recovery program to free up ram when needed.

i am using dette manila 2d rom V2.4... my sd card was already reading like 14k... and graphics was like almost 700.... i changed the advanced conf. settings tho..... doesnot seem ta have made any difference... anybody know if these things r already there on that rom ????

I had the cracked version of sktools 4.4 and i downloaded this sktools 5 thinking it was cracked but its not. I also did a search for sktools 5 and no go. Am i missing something or should i go back to my old version?

hi. i just installed tnyynt sd tuneup and schaps advanced config............

i chose the recommended settings from the post........... a soft reset..........


my phone is now blazing fast....... the response time just tapping on icons is damn near instant.......... nothing is choppy........ if i slid the s2u2 unlock real fast before this, it would be choppy.......... not now, not at all!!!!!! i just watched some youtube videos i have saved on my storage card that used to be choppy in spots with tcpmp, but it just played like it does on my pc...........

okay guys, i did this on my pro. i noticed a difference, but not as great as some other members claim. i first installed the sd tuneup cab. soft reset. then i installed schaps advance config v2, ran the test and i get, draw bit 566, and read speed 6729.46. i also went to chaps config, and manually changed

file system cache: enabled
file system cache size: 8mb
file system filter cache: 131072 sectors ( it doesn't give me any higher choice)
glyph cache: 128kb

soft reset, no difference in speed read reading than before. im i doing something wrong?

yeah, to test it you're supposed to run the initial test before you install the modifications. Then you test again to see the difference.

yeah, i unstalled the cab and my read speed was like 600, after this cab is 7000, big diference. i dont know why the first speed was 600 thou. that seems real slow when you compare it to the 2000 you have as a mark point on your first thread. but is a good difference never the lass. thanks. im running juggalo's rom.

I saw this thread a while back but never really thought that I needed it. I had an 8gb sd but I just upgraded to a 16gb and it plays music a lot slower. I'm going to install this soon.

Hmmm, I just installed and the HD tune up cab actually decreased the speed. It was like 7k before and went to 5k after. Then after uninstall went back to 7k. I installed to device....was I supposed to install to storage?
