SASHIMI FAQ

What is SASHIMI?
SASHIMI is first and foremost an installer. Its main function is to install CAB, .REG., .XML, .EXE, and .MSCR files that can be used when setting up your device. It can be run in Manual Mode, Automated Mode, or in Manual+Auto mode. SASHIMI can also perform backups of your important files and registry entries and allow for easy restore during installation. It would be impossible to describe all the additional things that SASHIMI can do....well actually, not impossible, just lengthy...so read the documentation or check out the series of video tutorials!

What devices will SASHIMI work on and is tied to a specific region/language?
SASHIMI was built for the HTC Kaiser and its variants. However it should work on any device running Windows Mobile 6\6.1 with a QVGA or VGA resolution. SASHIMI should work on all WM6\6.1 ROMS regardless of language. For more detailed information see the documentation. SASHIMI's basic functionality should work on non-QVGA/VGA devices however formatting of the menus may not be ideal. In addition, some special features (like the Auto Install to Storage Card) will not function on non-QVGA/VGA devices because they depend on screen taps that are hard-coded to QVGA/VGA resolutions.

CHANGE LOG AND FIXES

v.7.9 - 11/01/08
  • UPDATED! - Modified Delete Operations (deleteops.ini) to occur prior to root copy. This allows for file deletions on the device prior to copying over files.
  • UPDATED! - AutoRun startup dialog. SASHIMI will now give the option to choose the type of install mode (or exit) when run in Autorun mode. This will help some issues with Sashimi Compliance (SC).
  • UPDATED! - Modified initial run behavior and shortcut creation. Shortcuts will be created in \Start Menu\Programs automatically on first run (any mode). The option to disable this, as well as to change the default location are now configurable within the GUI and settings.ini file.
  • UPDATED! - Changed location of SDCONFIG.TXT file from the root of the Storage Card to the \INI folder. This will prevent issues with running SASHIMI prior to UC on UC compliant ROMs.
  • UPDATED! - Makisu to 1.9
v.7.8 - 10/22/08
  • NEW! - Added ability to toggle between SKTools (default) and TaskMgr for .REG import functions. See below for more info.
  • UPDATED! - Makisu to 1.8
v.7.7.3 - 10/17/08
  • FIXED! - Issue with customlinks not properly removing entries marked as NONE.
v.7.7.2 - 10/13/08
  • FIXED! - Issue with customlinks not properly working.
v.7.7.1 - 10/13/08
  • FIXED! - Issue with registry files not always being imported during Auto Phase.
v.7.7 - 10/11/08
  • NEW! - Tiered Install integrated during Manual install sessions. Requires NetCF.
  • NEW! - DELETEOPS.INI file allows for the deletion of specified files and folders during Auto phase.
  • NEW! - CERT folder for the processing of certificates.
  • NEW! - EXE folder can now process .LNK files (see Known Issues).
  • NEW! - SCRIPTPARAMS.INI file allows parameters to be specified for .MSCR files during install phases.
  • NEW! - Ability to turn off logging for (very minor) speed improvement.
  • NEW! - Additional options for SASHIMI Compliance (SC) relating to settings and customlinks ini files.
  • UPDATED! - Fixed issue with sample-file.auto template which caused issues when attempting CAB install to main device memory.
  • UPDATED! - Fixed issue with autorun script which prevented the idle timeout script from running.
  • UPDATED! - TaskMgr now actually handles .REG imports instead of SKTools.
  • UPDATED! - Autorun flag not set until after full run of auto phase. Allows for resuming an interrupted resumed Autorun session.
  • UPDATED! - Changed dialog and method for resuming auto install. Allows hands-free resumption (e.g. following a reboot).
  • UPDATED! - Set additional security policies at runtime to minimize issues with auto-installs.
  • UPDATED! - Removed sample install files from main install. Included instead in separate .CAB file.
  • UPDATED! - Makisu to 1.7

Thanks go to:

Mirko Schenk - Author of MortScript, without which none of this would have been possible.

DotFred - For his Task Manager application. This is what gives SASHIMI the power to import .REG and .XML files. The Task Manager program of course is so much more, and I urge you to try it out for all of its features.

I'm surprised that there isn't tons of posts about this program.....considering we have some junkies that flash every week....and this program cuts the after-flash time (re-modding) your phone down by like a million. Anyways, does anybody know if you can use it to (add a server source) in activesync? That is where I sync my contacts, email, and appointments from.

Hey Scott, the app looks very good and promising, and possibily a nice and easy user friendly alternative to user customizatioon setup... am I correct in my assumption?

Also (and this may be slighty off topic)... does this app, or is there any other thatll also save (and possibly update) things like browser bookmarks, passwords, email account info, reg edits etc? If not... can anyone point me in the direction of something similar? Thanks...

absolutely should be sticky. I joined this guys forum and just learned how to find the REG files so that it automatically registers your apps. I will try to learn as much as I can so that if anybody has questions I can answer them. So far I have my sashimi configured to autoinstal both my yahoo and exchange server emails (which also will sync my contacts, and calandar), my applications both to device and SC, and my REG files to register my stuff. If anybody else wants to join and learn for themselves here is the link:

Great guys, great info.... quick question tho... I notice in most of Cody's post rgardin this app... when you mention REG you seem to be referring to registration, but Is that the same reg that broski is talking about, I asked in an earlier post about this app an d if it backs up the reg, I was refering to registry settings/edits.... so just to clarify, Cody your talking about registration correct?,While I m assuming Broski is talking about regtry, but cant be sure... any thoughts?

Sorry for not being clear. But actually I was talking about both. It registers your apps for you by importing the registry files that contain your registrations information (i.e. serial). I bet that you could do what you are asking....it will take some time to figure out....but you would only have to do it once....because from then on it will do it automatically for you. So far what I have learned concerning this topic is this:

You need to find the registry files that contain this info and export it to the REG file in Sashimi. This can be done 1 of 2 ways.

1. The easier way is after you find out your serial you go into PHM regedit and click tools/find and search for the actual serial. The problem with this method is that some apps change it somehow....maybe some type of encryption.....and so you turn up no results.

2. The harder way uses a free PC app called WinDiff. What you do (in the case of the serials) is export your whole registry to your storage card. You then install the app and register it manually and then export the whole registry to your storage card again. You then drag these before and after registry exports are placed on your PC into the WinDiff directory. You then open these files with WinDiff and it allows you to compare the files and see all of the differences. This allows you to easily find the changes to your registry made by the installation and registration of the app and copy and these changes into notepad and save as a .REG file....which is then placed in the REG folder of sashimi.

With that said, I see no reason that you cant export before making a regedit and then again after and continue as before.

Here is the link that lets you download his tutorial on it

yea im talkin about registries...for instance I for one go to this registry:
HKCU\ControlPanel\PhoneExtendFunction\CDMA
SignalStrengthLevel:change or add DWORD:7

so I asked taylor to make me a .reg file that will automatically go to the registry location and change around the numbers i wanted it to for instance 7, it will enter 7 to that location in that registry...DO u get me lol

Yeah I feel you... that right there alone, ups this apps value even more to me, I hate having to do all that after flash/hard reset tweaking... so thatll be useful...

On a side note * what was the regedit you cited in your example, it look like some sort of radio signal boost, or something...
