Keyboard works intermitenly
 

My keyboard only works sometimes, I can slide it open and it lights up but none of the keys work. If I let it sit for a little bit, it usually starts working on its own. Sprint did a hard reset on it and thats really when it started to do it a lot. I'm hoping to figure this out on my own because I have not been getting along to well with the people at the sprint store. Also, if I were to try doing another hard reset, are there settings that I have to put back into the phone once it starts back up?

sounds like a hardware problem, but how old is it and is it the original ROM?

Its not quite 3 months old. Completely stock. Did a hard reset and the keyboard didnt work. Took it to the sprint repair store and they just ordered me a new one. Got back home and the keyboard started working again. This was already my second touch pro because the first one didnt work right either. Is it common to have this many problems with the touch pro?

yeah actually a lot of people have been having problems like that...what i suggest though before taking it in for replacement is flashing a custom rom...who knows maybe its just the stock rom that might be faulty...i might be wrong though...

If it's a hardware issue with your keyboard, they're just gonna offer you a refurb if you have the protection plan.... $55. I went through a keyboard ordeal with my Mogul. Question, once the keyboard starts working, does it work well? Or do you have to press keys extra hard or do they get stuck, etc? Because, if it works well after it gets going, it's a good chance is a software issue. As far as the hard reset, it will bring your phone back to how it was when you took it out of the box for the first time. I am assuming you are running a stock ROM. It's not a big deal for the phone, you just loose any personal info you have saved in your phone, so as long as you have your stuff backed up, it's no big deal. One more thing, if another hard reset doesn't solve ur probelm, try flashing to a custom ROM if you haven't already. Of course, please read all the tutorials before you go that route.

I would have to agree like when i got my Diamond I was using the stock rom for like a day I load a few apps on there it slowed my phone down bad...... Those stock rom's are weighted down with so much stuff you dont need.

I had that problem with my mogul a while back.It all boil down to the custom roms. and the key board driver issue when i was researching it.To make it easy revert back to stock rom.If you are on a stock rom then what version rom are you running ?.I had already checked the htc site and there's no issues with the keyboards at all.

when the keyboard works, it works great. then out of no where, it just completely stops. it wont do anything and the backlight even turns off. it has been hard reset twice today and hasnt made any difference. the phone is 100% bone stock. another strange thing it did today was when the screen would shut off, the backlight for the screen would stay on. im tellin ya, i just cant win lately. and i am a complete noob and do not know how to check rom version...

well just knowing that your phone is STOCK we know you have the sprint rom..which sucks! its full of apps that you will never use...and not to mention it brings your performance down...you should really consider unlocking it and flashing a custom rom...sometimes it can make a world of difference.. :)

Sometimes custom roms will fix but witjh my old pro it was most def a hardware issue but if it still does it after a hard reset then you should get a replacement

Yeah, I would definitely lobby for a replacement. I just hope you don't give up on the TPro in general, it really is a great piece of equipment when it works...:training1:

i have a new one coming. i really do like the phone when it works, but its starting to make me wonder because this was already my second one since december. perhaps i will change roms on the new one when i get it... thanks for all the input!

you know what, mines been acting up too. just replaced it about two weeks ago cause i had a chip in the chrome on my first one. so i claimed it stolen to get another one before the jacked up the price on the insurance. never had any problems with my first one, just bothered me cause of the chip. so now i got this new one that ive had for about two weeks and the keyboard does exactly what u said urs did. dont know what the problem is but if it doesnt fix im gonna have to get another one. sucks. i love the phone and wouldnt trade it for any other brand. ill just keep replacing it or until the Touch Pro 2 comes out. definately getting that one as soon as it comes out.

My keyboard stopped working to around the time i did the mighty beta rom but even with the stock rom back on it, it still works when it wants to. MAYBE a wire came loose but i dont know, got a new one sent next day air.

whats cool it you get a brand new one because i guess they dont have any refurbs yet lol.... this is my 3rd new one.

now should i send the battery back too? I know on refurbs they just want the phone only. on my last 2 i sent the phone,battery and cover.

yes i would send it back so you dont get charged.... i alwasy keep the holster and the stylus's and they have never had any troubles with that.
