Attempted install of DcD's 2.0.0_Beta Sprint REV A Rom
This got as far as rebooting the phone to the multi color red green blue black boot screen, then the installation progress indicator that never got past 0%.
The ROM installer on the computer notified me of the communication error and walked me through steps to recover which were. Unplug the USB cable, remove battery for 3 seconds, put battery back in, power on phone. At that point my phone booted fine as though nothing happened.
I tried this about 4 more times on a different computer each time, Vista (with Mobile device center) and XP SP2 (with Active sync 4.5 as guest) using two different USB cables all with the same results.
Downloaded zipped combo of files (6800.zip) designed to complete this update from rapid share (uploaded by Howardforums forum user) which included the Hard-SPL-MFG.exe, dcd's 2.0.0 ROM, and Radio 3.27.00
Installed Hard-SPL-MFG.exe (Ran just like ROM update), ran with no errors and left my phone in the multi color red green blue black boot screen, my phone would not boot at that point (found out later this is what its supposed to do).
I thought I had to fix the no phone boot so I tried holding the power button + camera button + reset hole button, and it booted right back to the multi color boot screen and no phone (I was a little worried at this point).
I though I would just dcd's 2.0.0 ROM from the 6800.zip I got from the howardforum link and it actually completed the installation despite the ROM update instruction I had on the computer prompting me to verify a successful Active Sync connection first, but it only booted afterward to the Sprint logo splash screen.
I tried dcd's 2.0.0 ROM install again, sensing all was lost anyway, why not REALLY kill it good, still only booted to the Sprint splash screen.
Then I tried the initial EVDO GPS BETA (RUU_TITAN_SPRINT_WWE_3[1].16.651.0_435009_RS3_27_00_SPCS_NV124.exe) leak, there was about a 2 minute delay before the install progress indicator actually got past 0% this time but it installed and it all worked.
My phone boots now.
I tested a phone call and it works.
Checked the antenna version, is 3.27
I tested internet and it seems about 2x faster, but it does seem to slow down often.
For some reason I am still not able to download Mobile live search (the best mapping software for windows mobile IMHO) on my phone for more than 2 days and perfect reception. I starts downloading but doesn't get any farther than 25% downloaded then fails to progress downloading. I had to download it on my computer first. All other downloads seem fine including google maps (second best). There is no proxy server setup on the phone so im not sure why this doesnt work.
GPS works PERFECT with Mobile Live search and Google maps.. It is awesome, extremely accurate, definitely within 10ft accuracy and easily updates every second. The satellite imagery keeps up just fine over EVDO. I did not have to tweak anything to make either of these apps use the GPS automatically, no need to start one program to "Prime" it first. Windows Live search ALWAYS finds the satellites quicker than Google so far (at least twice as quickly) and both are just as accurate positioning wise. Reception indoors doesn't work so well as expected. Both Live search and Google maps become very sluggish and often unresponsive when turning GPS position on and off. Live search and often takes about 15 seconds to load the initial satellite imagery. All in all it is a great GPS experience.
I've noticed often Pocket Internet Explorer connection takes about 5 seconds before "opening" the page, which kind of negates the whole faster speed thing.
The phone still works as a modem via US and Inet speeds at first seemed truly 2x faster but for the last few hours of last night it was more like standard EVDO, sometimes even slower. I haven't had much of a chance to test it out today but I'll post my finding again if anyone is interested.
Lastly I've experienced that the HTC Home plugin (HTC.Kaizer.Home.Plugin.with.Tabsetting.schen.cab) with the HTC Home customizer (HHCv10b5.zip) stops responding when saving changes although if I terminate it the changes are made.
In conclusion I am very concerned about my longer wait times to establish actual data transfer over the EVDO Rev A once connection is established (even though my EVDO connection is already running) and my few hours of slow inet. If you are concerned about my finding regarding the inet speed.. then please check back on the forum in a few days to make sure it wasn't just temporary slowness, I would hate to make the Sprint Mogul look bad. I really think its a great device and worth getting. overall the upgrade WAS worth it.

WOW!!!! Thanks for the review..... this saves me some time. i think that it was a temporary slowness in your area for the net since i have never seen anything like that happen and talking to a couple members on the site through palringo and they too didnt face this. but great review of the rom and really appreciate it. as you said google maps is great but the sprint navigation (which i got for free just have to call sprint and yell at them and they will at least give you a discount)is awesome and the turn by turn voice gps is awesome and responds quickly. once again thanks and hope that you enjoy Wckediden and hopefully will see you around here a lot in the future.
