I believe that people were having problems with class 2 high capacity micro sd cards. IE class 2, 4 gb.
Anyways, be careful when doing this with an sd card. Now it is safer in some ways and not so safe in others. Make sure that your battery has a descent charge, cause if it goes dead during the update, bad things will happen.
I never used a 512 for flashing, but I have used a 64 meg, 256 meg, 1gb and 2 gb for flashing and have never had any problems. Good luck flashing!
