Hey njkid, there actually is a way to force into evdo.

Go into your registry and Go to \\\registry\HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\PhoneSetting\
Change the value of 'HiddenModeOperationPage' from 1 to 0. Save, soft reset. On your phone go to settings->phone->Services-> and mode of operation should appear in the list now! and you can change back to 1x whenever you want. only you can't make or recieve calls or texts so after your done surfing the web, you'll need to change back to recieve awaiting texts and so forth...
