For the record, I was calibrating the screen with my thumb instead of the stylus... what a dummy!! Anyway, after a hard reset and then using the stylus to align the screen, everything came up like it was supposed to. I was being impatient and automatically assumed that I had hosed up the phone somehow.

glad it worked but under setting you will find a screen icon and that icon will allow you to calibrate the screen so you dont have to hard reset to do it again.
