to hard reset, while phone is off (shouldnt be a problem b/c it sounds like ur phone is off anywayz)... hold down center/okay button and volume down button together...now while holding those two... press and hold the power button...continue holding all three until, a warning appears onscreen and then press volume up button
as stated earlier, these are instruction on proper hard reset

No what I am asking is did anything appear when you did the button presses he told you to do. There should have been a gray screen with blue writing that came up saying to perform a reset push the volume up key. Did that screen come up?
the quote above is what supes is refering to... if you didnt get that warning message, you didnt do and actual hard reset
