About the hard reset after flashing, you know how after the fashing finishes the phone resets, calibrates and goes thru its set up? Well, I assume that you have to let it do all that first, then remove the battery and hard reset, right?
naw you can hard reset at anytime.... ido after i place the battery back in.... press and hold the power button, volume down, and the center key while soft resetting to get into bootloader.
