I am running XP and when I connect via USB, the external drive never appears like it was suggested it would in this thread:

(not enough posts yet to attach links, but thread is: [ ISSUE SOLVED ] 4GB Internal storage gone)

I want to use these instructions but I cant format the drive if it never shows up! Does anyone know how to make it appear or how I can get around it.

I am a noob, but I felt that this was different enough for it to be allowed a new thread, as I am on XP. Sorry if not. Like I said, I have searched and read all the threads that came up and ICEM/\N's solution does look spot on as long as I can get the drive to appear.

Thanks guys!
have you tried to go to settings than clear storage and see if it will allow you to format from there still? there should be an option above where you type and click 1234 for you to reformat the internal memory as well as the 4 gb.
