im not sure what the server setting should be set too.

OK, I figured it out, so this is for those of you having the same prob. real silly thing actually. go into the setting of the email itself and under the username and password, make sure the user name is just the first part of the email, leave off the @gmail.com
i feel like such a noob.... ;P
