ARTICLE: 'Droid' to become a brand at Verizon, encompassing more than one d

We knew that Verizon had plans to launch additional Android devices after the November release of the Droid, but according to Engadget Mobile, "Droid" is slated not only as the name for the upcoming Motorola device, but also as a "brand name" to encompass Verizon's Android offerings.

Though reports say that the "Sholes" may still be called the Droid at launch, the HTC Desire is on the way, and is said to be branded as the "Droid Eris" (the Greek goddess of strife). What's more, rumors are pointing to a November 6th launch, meaning that we could see two Android devices on Big Red within a pretty close timeframe. If you don't see the Eris at the October 28th event, don't worry - it's thought that the "Sholes" will be stealing the party there.

With Droid becoming a brand and not just a device, is it possible that Verizon will send the media more R2D2 units? Time will tell.
