What is a flex cable

There are lots of experts here. It would be so nice if you can tell us little about parts of mobile like Flex cable. I want know about HTC touch diamond's parts. And I want to ask what is flex cable in mobile is it whole kit?

and flex can be used in a variety of ways for different purpose... in the diamond, im not sure what it does... but theres some in the pro, which connect the keyboard to the screen, to display the text input
