HOWTO: Changing Windows Mobile SPLASH screen on startup
hey, i havnt seen a thread on this, and i know that the windows mobile 6 splash screen (bright green) when you turn the phone on gets to some people cus it got to me dammit! lol... anyway, its very simple to change, you will need to find an image you want (240x320) and name it to "welcomehead.96.png" without the quotes. using resco explorer, or any other file explorer that gives you full access, place the new .png file in the /Windows directory. it will ask if you would like to replace becuase the file is located in ROM, hit yes.

NOTE - once you change this, it is done. you cannot "undo". you will have to find the original splash screen and replace again if you want to go back..

anyway, here is the one i made, if you guys have them , lets see them!!

another quick note - i have only dont this on my Sprint HTC Vogue (Touch)... i dont know if it will work with other PPC's so if they break, do NOT hold me accountable.. whenever you edit the ROM you always have a chance of bricking your device!!

I've got my pick and I'm trying to get it up on my HTC touch-when i open my mobile on active sinc I cant find the windows directory..help?

why dont you try to transfer the pic to your phone (memory card) then from your phone transfer the pic to your windows directory ... that worked for me ...

Hey Joe, thanks for the response. I have the pic on there but I cant locate the windows folder. I have that pic saved in like 5 diffent places now. When I go to my storage card I copy in from my phone and when I see the "windows" folder, I click on it but it wont let me paste the pic...make sense at all?

thats weird cus when i did mine all it said was "file already exist would you like to replace it?" and i said yes.... make sure its a png file 240 x 320...

dash wont work on a mogul.i copy pasted exact name.it didnt even ask to replace existing file.just added to windows directory.so IDK.there is one called Welcome.but appears to be a exe..it launches to the green screen nut has tap menu to set up stylus.but screen turns unresponsive.so i just deleted it.now we need a way for the mogul:p

wont work on the mogul theres a different way for the mogul thats why this is in the touch forum not the mogul forum. you have to have resco file explorer which can be found at the site to overwrite this. it will ask if you wanna overwrite this and say yes than do a soft reset and your done.

there isnt one included just choose your own image from the net that you find.

Also... will a hard reset bring back the original green screen, or am I deleting the original picture? If I can't revert back, how do I find an d backup the old "green screen". I'm lookng through my /windows folder for the original picture and i can't find it. I just got resco, do i have to turn on view hidden files or something?

resco you just rename and overwrite in the windows folder. jsut paste in there and it will find. you can save the origina;s to your computer to revert back or do a hard reset and that will bring it back also. you can change these as many times as you want just keep renaming the images the same thing and than yoyu will be able to overwrite as much as you want.

I know you said you tried it for the touch. Anything new on it having a problem working with the mogul or any updates on it working with the mobile.... thanks Kaos...I owe you. I finally got my mogul up and running with all the apps working great. i hope to post a youtube video on it and give you guys credit, so that the new video will make my old one look like a little girl!! hahaha.. thanks again!!

your welcome...also ya it works for the mogul just name the image welcomehead.96 I has to be in png format.You can use paint on your computer to convert it to png.

the same spot where the splash screens were at you will see a .wav for startup.wav or sumtin close. you take a really short tone like the stock and put it in your windows folder and name it the same as the stock which can be found in the registry. than overwrite the exisiting file and and than soft reset and DONE.| aslo in the future since this is a whole different topic than splash screen please make this a new thread. ok i need help....i recently hard reset my device to factory settings by doig that i had the bright green boot up screen again.....I reinstalled every thing and now im just trying to put my 2pac boot up screen on and i am using resco explorer and going into windows scrolling down to where i thought would say welcome and paste mine over that like i did last time and its now there and i dont know where to paste my boot up screen can u please hel thanks

it has to be there bro..... you can also try to just paste it in there and see if it recognizes as an overwrite or just works.... should be there after a hard reset though. especially if it shows when the phone boots up.

its in aphalbtcl order and i am in the w's and all it has is wmtrigger and thats all the w's..............i go to resco explorer click on windows and scroll down to w's right...shpould it say welcome in there

unless you deleted, it has to be there especially after a hard reset bro....

did you read the thread even??? you need something like resco file explorer.... the stock wont wont allow you to overwrite the rom files but resco will.

If I can do it...ANYBODY can do it. I think people are making it more difficult than it is. All ur doing is over riding the stock picture in the windows folder. You can actually look @ the original pic if you take the time to surf thru all the files to make sure ur changing the correct one using Resco. Don't really understand the access denied part.

ok i know you have to open it wit resco and you have to rename it welcomehead.96.png................. but where do u put it after you rename it in storage card programs in the device where do u put before opening it with resco:40:

ok guys changed the death of me green splash screen which is the welcome head everything lookin great sooo far i even found a app on freeware that makes the process easy. but what i wanna know is the splash screen is the 3rd or 4th screen how do i change the first and second.... for example dash is hulk rom starts with black and green swirl windows logo screen then it goes to the all black windows icon logo screen is there a name for these pics like welcome head i search the whole windows folder on my phone can't find those pics?????????? i hope i said everything right:smile_mini2:

you cant that has to be done in the rom when it is built.

just to add to this dash before u replace it back it up its hidden so sync ur touch to ur pc and then open my computer and goto view and folder options and then click on the second tab and uncheck show hidden files and folders and uncheck hide system files and then just make a back up of the file ur going to replace on ur device that way if u ever have to u can put the old one back.
