Disabling The HTC HomePlug-in
From time to time as I have been trying to figure out how to safely and easily change the shell and theme on my HTC Mogul, I come across a list of instructions that explain how to install a particular theme or program. One of the most common series of instructions involves disabling the HTC Home Plug-in, but no one ever explains how. The simplest understanding of how to do this is like this:
1) Go to START/SETTINGS/personal. 2) Look for the "today icon" and click on it (to disable HTC HOME PLUGIN) 3) Click on the "HTC home" to disable it 4) then EXTRACT the zip file of the theme or whatever it is you are installing that requires this step into your "WINDOWS" folder and set the extract to "ovewrite". 5) After extracting, return to step 1 and click the "today icon" and then "ENABLE" the "HTC home" plugin by clicking on it. Please let me know if this is correct. Also, when you overwrite the plug-in, can you get it back? If not, what specific steps can one take before doing anything to safely return their device to the way it looked before? And please don't just say backup your files, because I'm not sure what those files are. Thanks, Rene |

Issue #1: I downloaded and successfully installed a trial version of SPB Mobile Shell 2.1 (SPB MS2.1) from the developer's website. Although it does look better and much prefer this interface as opposed to the standard Today screen that ships with the HTC Mogul, I don't understand why my device keeps going back to the standard screen whenever I turn the phone off then on again. I did go into the SPB settings and selected what I thought would be an option to make the device use the SPB shell as its default, but it didn't work. Am I suppose to disable the HTC Home Plug-in? Issue #2: Is there ever a time when disabling the HTC Home Plug-in is necessary because it conflicts with other programs or theme generators? Issue #3: Does SPB MS2.1 allow you to customize what appears on your Now screen? As its default, the shell looks nice, with 4 main buttons that take you to different categories, but is there a way to customize and thus change this layout? Issue #3: How do people make skins for SPB MS2.1? Thanks |

Oops, sorry about that. I bad. Quote:
Still, if all that is required to change a theme is to replace all the pics one by one, how come many of the skins for SPB MS2.1 don't seem to follow the layout that comes with SPB MS2.1? How are the theme designers changing the layouts? Also, what is the difference between SPB Mobile Shell 2.1, SPB Phone Suitcase 1.3, And SPB Pocket Plus 4.0.2? I've read the descriptions from the developer's site, but it's unclear whether these programs are all meant to run together or what. |
