Default unable to sync up to PC

I keep getting either an error or a failure for WMDC to even TRY to connect. The phone itself shows it's made a connection. The "Safely Remove Hardware" thingy shows a PocketPC USB Sync when I pug the phone into the usb port.

I have windows Vista 32 bit

I've installed the WMDC from the CD the phone came with and from the Microsoft website. I've rebooted the PC and tuned the phone on/off a few times now. On the phone it self I've done the clear the checkbox on USB to PC "enable advanced network functionality" I've tried other usb ports on my computer. I have yet to try a diffrent computer.

Anyone else ever run into a problem like this?

Default Re: unable to sync up to PC

I've used the install right off the microsoft site after both uninstalling and rebooting.

I've never been able to get it to connect.

I've done both having the phone connected to the PC when I install WMDC and having it non connected during the install.

When I do not have it connected and do the install, when I then go and connect the phone WMDC does not open on it's own I have to do it manually. At that point it just show connecting for about a minute then shows a red X and the word error

When it is connected when I do the install it opens WMDC right away but it just sits on the splash screen for 10+ minutes. if I then go and manually open the program (while it's still stuck on the splash screen) it pops right up and shows me the same red X error.

There's no firewall up and I even uninstalled my anti-virus stuff.

I'll give the soft reboot a try though I have this feeling that it's more the PC side not doing something right as the phone tells me I've made a connection.

The USB to PC thing I changed was under the activesync thing in the USB to PC thing called "Enable advanced network functionality" this was something the phone help suggested.

i don't think its a pc problem. provided your firewall isn't blocking the connection and your usb ports work and you have WMDC installed then it's probably your phone

i would suggest you go ahead and hard reset

I tried a soft reset and that did not help. A hard reset may very well be next. I do think it's strange that I don't have Microsoft Windows Mobile Remote Adapter in my Network Adapters nor do I have Microsoft USB Sync in my mobile devices. I do have PocketPC USB Sync in the moble devices though.

Well I finally did the hard reset. Wasn't able to back anything up (just a few contacts) since I really didn't have any place to back them up to. I planned to go out and pick up an sd card today, but that was about 5 hours ago when I started working on this problem.

Anyway, hard reset didn't work. I'm gonna try to reinstall WMDC once more then mr. phone is going back to mr. store so I can get a new mr. phone.

--------- New Post Merged on 26/4/2009 at 05:18:22 --------

So I did the reinstall once more and it did not help at all. Then I spent a bit of time yelling at the phone and computer. After I was done with that I went over to a Sprint store to see if I could buy a new usb cable. Turned out they had just taken in a touch pro return and so they just gave me the cord for free :glasses1:.

Took the cord and phone over to a friends house, installed WMDC from the microsoft website and BAM! worked just fine, moved some music in the sd card I picked up, everything worked great.

Came home and decided something must have gone very wrong during the first install so I used a restore point (which ended up being a painful painful process) installed the software again.... And now wont let me connect. :(

I looked over at my driver software installation thingy that pops up over on the notification bar on the PC and saw that, for some strange reason, the driver that installs with WMDC doesn't seem to actually install. It sits on Unidentifed device "Searching preconfigured driver folders..."

So now I have a super fun driver issue that I have zero idea how to fix. Fun fun.

Update: Called sprint, got bounced around til I hit the smartphone tech support people. They tell me that I've done everything I can and that if it works on another computer but not mine then there is little they can do to help.

They gave me a number to Microsoft who are of course closed today. Apparently this problem is much more wide spread then I though based on several forums posts through out the net.

not sure how vista device driver specs looks ...but go to the device driver and see if there's a yellow exclamation pointing the the sync.if it is go ahead and uninstall it and reboot ,then uninstall active sync, again reboot.once all that is accomplish then reinstall active sync.DO not connect device yet.again reboot. and reboot your device too. and then try and reconnect.hope this make sense.

That was a really good idea wcked the one combination of install/uninstall/connect that I didn't do. Didn't fix the problem, but it was a really good idea.

Well, I'm gonna run to my friends house, try seeing if I can connect to his computer again as I'm starting to think it was all a grand delusion lol. Then my project for tomorrow is to drag out the old PC running xp and see if I can get the darn thing to connect to the older activesync that xp uses. WMDC makes me cry.

that would have been the only solution to resolving it that i know of drivers are so unique but trouble some that it takes time to install it properly.I do that all the time when, I'm messing around with someones computer...
