VITO Technology SMS Chat v1.16
Requirements: PPC WM5, WM6
Overview: SMS-Chat is a Windows Mobile SMS messenger that organizes your SMS correspondence into threaded SMS conversations. This way you have a separate chat for every contact with whom you exchange short text messages. You can easily follow a conversation scrolling thru chats with a finger: all messages are grouped by date. Manage your mobile texting with a flick of a finger!

Using SMS on a Windows Mobile device can be annoying because the messages aren't threaded. This is a feature that we've hoped Microsoft would have included by now, but they haven't. VITO Technology has recently released a solution for those of us that crave IM-like SMS conversations as found in other operating systems. Is SMS-Chat just a novelty, or does it make SMS much more usable? Read on to see!

The hot factor for this application is that it threads the messages together. It is not as sophisticated as other applications that thread messages such as Extreme Text on the Motorola Q, however SMS-Chat works with the operating system rather than the make of phone, so it has more usability despite being a less sophisticated product. There is certainly room for development as you'll see soon.

The new version of SMS-Chat supports black skin in HTC touch style. Other minor changes include:
The notification window disappears when you tap the screen outside it.
When clicking the cross icon the notification closes and message shows as unread in chat.
Quick scroll has appeared for long chats.
Clicking the name in the chat opens a contact details
It is possible to minimize the application right from the chat.
Dates in chats are shown the same way as in the WM system

have you downloaded it? installed it? all that fun stuff?

if so, then all you have to do is have it open and running, and it automatically does what your asking...if you prefer it to start up with your windows mobile, then you can copy the .exe file in the program files folder, and paste it (the copy) into the Device/Windows/Startup folder, and you should be "golden" - quoting Dashy

This program is ok but let me explain the one reason why i dont like it. I dont like that when you receive a text it pops up full screen. For those of us guys that have a girl and a girl on the side this is not a good look because if she is playing around with your phone, like most girls like to do to be nosey, it might just be your luck that the girl on the side hit you up and the text pops up full screen.not a good look happen to me! So i will stick with the sms that comes with windows mobile 6.1

I think you can click on the "notifications" and it won't pop up like that, b/c I acidentally clicked it and it quit doing that, which I like that option.

BUT LMAO!!! Being a "girl" and yes we can be nosey.......turn off of the "notifications" on the vito, and turn off the notification sounds and you won't even hear it when it comes through if "the girl on the side" hits u up while ur with the other one..............LOL !!!

Does anyone know if this works seamlessly with Power SMS? Particularly the "Group SMS" feature...I had Cody PPC Threaded SMS, but with it...it would not allow the "Group SMS" feature to work. I had to uninstall it, utilizing the stock 6.1 ROM, the stock thread...SMS allows Power SMS's "Group..." feature to work. (Off Topic)Also, I turned in my "Players Card", but still have the "Man Law" text book...Man Law 201 Article 6 states: "Change all female names to male names in any address keeping device or material..." This could only be a problem if John aka Jane wants to thank you for a night of bliss! lol!

this doesnt overwrite the stock so if it doesnt when you need to use that app all you have to do is use the stock one and your all good :>

What do you mean change it manually? The names in the phone are display first name then last. Any registry hack?

Sorry for the late response, I went back to the 1.05 but that keeps crashing on me. Any help would be appreciated.

no there isnt any way to change.......... you would have to do manually 1 by 1

Hey Does anyone run this on a Touch Pro? I just got my pro about a week ago and I can't for the life of me get it to run right. It was one of my favorites on the mogul but it just wont work correctly for me on the pro. The problem is when the notifications come up I can never hit the reply or X button, it just freezes. I use a handy app called GScroll to map a triple tap (not click) of the end call button to close programs, so I do that to close the notification and a different shortcut to reopen SMSChat. It usually works fine from there but still sometimes it freezes up even in the main screen of it. This program ran flawlessly on the mogul which leads me to believe this program isn't completely compatible with the pro. Can anyone give me any input on this situation? Even with the faults I still like this program wwwaaaaaaaaayyyyyy better than the stock SMS. And btw Ive tried this version (1.16) and 1.15 and tried on a few different ROMs inluding stock and custom, and had the same issue everytime. Now I'm running SMS chat 1.16 on Scroslers 1.5M SSK ROM.

this is prolly an oudated version by looking at the post date... i would do a search and see if there is a new version... for it to work it will have to be VGA compatible..... will say in the description if it is or isnt...

Well it runs and works to an extent. The notification bubble is the only problem that happens everytime. It pops up when I have a message, but it wont function. I have to close the bubble using an external prog (the X on the bubble does nothing). Then I can access the program just fine but the main reason I like this program is the easiness of it, and this isnt easy. Im getting over it though, because MMS dosent run through this so I miss pic messages sometimes. But really Id prefer to use this over stock so any help would be appreciated. Oh and Dash, Im pretty sure this is the newest version... according to VITOs site at least.

Do you have any other sms handling programs downloaded onto your phone? And did you install this on your device or onto a storage card? And when running the program would you prefer to have the bubble disabled or do you like it and just want it to work? I got a hundred more of these questions. I know all the ins and outs of this program. Just make sure that your answers are detailed and thorough.

Well I will tell you exactly what I did this morning. I recooked and flashed the SSK Version 1.5M Rev C2 Core Kitchen using the 21015 ROM and SYS folders. I did't include any SMS handling programs in the ROM at all, TF3D automatically handles them though. I disabled tf3d and then installed a few random tweaks for battery life and touch vibration response and then installed the VITO SMS chat 1.16 cab to my DEVICE, not storage card. I opened the sms chat to ensure that notifications is checked and then I closed it (not minimized). I went on to restore all of my contacts and messages using PIM backup and all of my messages show up through this program just fine and I can send and receive them fine, while its open.
Ok right now, nothing is on my today screen and I have plenty of free memory (156/207 Free). No programs are open at all except activesync according to my task manager. I just recently soft reset. I sent myself a text from my moms phone and the box pops up, showing the name, message and two buttons. If I hit the reply button, the phone realizes I have read the message because the led light stops twirling, but the notification bubble will not go away, nor does the actual chat open. I have waited like a minute for it to happen and it wont. If I hit the X instead of reply button the same thing basically happens except the phone will keep trying to remind me that I have a message until I actually look at it.
I have a makeshift solution using a programs called GScroll to close programs using taps of a hardware button, so I just use that to close the bubble, and reopen SMSchat.
I prefer to have the notifications turned on, because if they are off, the stock notifications come up, and that sucks. But thankyou sir for trying to help me and I apologize for the ridiculously long response, but you did ask for detiails. :rastaman: . Oh and I have also tried to cook this into the ROM but I always get duplicated file errors. But any help is appreciated.

Hey I know this was a long time ago, but if anyone else is having this issue: Download Funcontact (VITOs contact manager program, you can find it here), install it to your device, and open it. In the menu go to sort, and click on by first name. Make sure in SMS chat and your other contact program that they are arranged by first name now and go ahead and uninstall Funcontact, unless you want it. Soft reset and be amazed to see that you just saved yourself some time and energy.

I'm having an issue with my version 1.16. Only sometimes will my text that I sent will erase. It goes through but I only have their responses and not what I sent. I clicked on Notifications. I also deleted most of my chats thinking that I'm using too much storage. I also exported chats then deleted that file as well.... Thanks...

Did you install this on your device or your storage card? And if it's on your device there could be a couple of reasons that this could be the case. For one the only way that it would be a memory issue and this is if you have years of chat logged in thread on your device is that if you have an overwhealming amount of other applications just draining every little bit of mem that you have available. I seriously doubt that this is the case however. Another reason could be (depending on what rom you are running) that windows mobile sometimes (especially with tf3d) already has a set defined amount of messages that it will store on your device before it starts to delete them. Usually at about fifty. But that really wasn't your issue was it? But it still is the same thing because SMS Chat basically mimics your device in its responsive and handling behaviours as far as text messaging goes. Now i know that wm does have the threaded texting but by default it seems to always start out looking as a one sided conversation. Sure there are ways to fix all of this but why? I would most definately recommend installing this on your storage card if you haven't already. If you already have a bunch of threaded chats that you are afraid of losing with the necessary uninstall before reinstall, then there is a function in the settings of the program to where you can and go export all of your theaded chats into one little file and after you reinstall you are able to re-import it all and it puts it on there as though it had never been gone in there first place.

Now, having already said all of that, if you are having this issue and you already had the program on your storage card. then there are those earlier fixes that i mentioned that we did not go through. Sorry about the humongous post. Just trying to be thourough. Let me know!
