2023 Samsung TVs get new firmware before big Tizen 8.0 upgrade
If you own a 2023 Samsung smart TV, a new firmware update should be waiting for you — assuming you haven't received the notification already. The firmware version suggests it's a big one, but you likely won't see any major changes to your TV's UI once you update. However, there's more to this release than meets the eye.
Samsung's new update for 2023 TVs pushes the firmware version from 14xx all the way up to version 2000.2. That's a giant leap in terms of firmware numbers, and it's not without a reason. Preparing for the big Tizen upgrade We haven't noticed any massive UI changes after updating to version 2000.2, but according to a Samsung Member Star on the official Community Forum, this is a bridge update meant to prepare 2023 TV models for a bigger upcoming release. From mid-October, Samsung's AI-powered TVs launched in 2023 should get a big Tizen OS update from the current version 7.0 to 8.0. In other words, 2023 TVs will soon run the same Tizen OS version as the 2024 models, i.e., Tizen 8.0. This new firmware update to 2000.2 is supposedly a pre-requisite for the upcoming big release. Tizen 8.0 boasts a new Game Bar 4.0 with extra features, better Samsung Health and SmartThings integration, three new accessibility features, and more. The story continues after the video Looking into the future, Tizen 8.0 will be one of many OS updates for 2023 TVs. In August, Samsung said it will support 2023 and later AI TVs for seven years, matching what the mobile division does for select Galaxy phones. If you own a Samsung TV from 2023 and want to check whether it received the 2000.2 firmware version, press the Settings button on your remote, go to “All settings,“ navigate to “Support,” select “Software update,” and tap “Update now.” And if you're looking for a new Samsung TV, the 2023 Neo QLED and OLED models might be worth considering even in 2024. They're usually available at discounts, and you can rest easy knowing that they will receive the same firmware treatment as the newer models.
