[NEWS] Ready to move on from your Galaxy A06? The A17 might be worth it

Replacing one budget Samsung phone with another that costs just about the same is rarely a good idea. In the worst-case scenario, you could end up spending too much money without feeling like the user experience has improved much, or at all.



However, if you need to replace your Galaxy A06 and wouldn't mind something slightly better, here are three main reasons why the new Galaxy A17 makes a bit more sense.



A better screen, finally Super AMOLED



The first reason is that, as a Galaxy A06 user, the Galaxy A17 is your cheapest ticket from PLS LCD to a Super AMOLED display.



Mind you, the Galaxy A17 doesn't have a stellar Super AMOLED panel, so it doesn't support things like Always on Display. But neither does the A06's PLS LCD.



What you gain from the Galaxy A17's Super AMOLED panel is a higher resolution, a higher peak brightness level, and better contrast. And if you're coming from the 4G A06, you also gain a faster 90Hz refresh rate.



Some extra protection and better materials



The Galaxy A17 is still made primarily from plastic, similar to your Galaxy A06. It has a plastic frame, for a start. However, it does feature Gorilla Glass Victus display protection, which will make that Super AMOLED screen harder to scratch.



Furthermore, the Galaxy A06 technically lacks an IP rating, but the Galaxy A17 has IP54. This makes it resistant to dust and water.



Or, to be more precise, the Galaxy A17 is not exactly water-resistant, but it is resistant to water splashes. So, if you get caught with it in the rain, it has a much higher survival chance than your A06.



You might notice some performance gains



The third and last reason why the Galaxy A17 might not be a bad upgrade is performance.



Don't expect a massive improvement, but the Galaxy A17's Exynos 1330 (5G) and Helio G99 (4G) chips are technically superior to the Galaxy A06's Dimensity 6300 (5G) and Helio G85 (5G) solutions.



Will you be able to play games at higher graphical fidelity? Most likely not. But using the Galaxy A17, you may notice faster app loading times and higher responsiveness.



The Galaxy A17 is far from the performance levels of pricier phones, but if you feel like the Galaxy A06 is just too slow in general use cases, you might get along better with the A17.



But if you decide to drop your Galaxy A06 for the A17, keep in mind that the latter does not have a 3.5mm headphone port. You can still buy USB-C wired headphones in some markets for a low price. Or you may have to buy budget wireless earbuds.
