[NEWS] Samsung’s OLED screens could come to several Apple devices

Apple has been using Samsung Display's OLED panels in iPhones for years. Last year, the company brought OLED panels to iPads, starting with the iPad Pro, and some of those panels were made by Samsung. Now, a report claims Apple is bringing OLED screens to more devices in the coming years, and at least some of those panels will likely come from Samsung.



Apple could bring OLED panels to more iPads and MacBooks



A Bloomberg report suggests Apple may introduce OLED screens to the iPad Air and iPad Mini. While next year's iPad Mini is expected to feature an OLED screen, this upgrade will likely increase its price by up to $100 compared to the current model. The iPad Air is also reportedly receiving an OLED panel, but it won’t get the feature with the next-generation model that is scheduled for release in early 2025.



Apparently, Apple currently has no plans to switch the base iPad from an LCD screen to an OLED screen. However, plans could always change, and the base iPad will be the last to get the update due to its pricing and positioning. It is important for Apple to keep the base iPad's price accessible.



The MacBook Air will also get an OLED screen, according to the report. However, that OLED model won't arrive anytime soon, as it is expected to launch sometime in 2028.



Apple has always purchased OLED panels from LG Display and Samsung Display. In recent years, the company also bought OLED panels from the Chinese firm BOE. However, after BOE's OLED panels were banned from entering the US by the US International Trade Commission (ITC), it is likely that Apple will depend only on LG and Samsung for future OLED orders.



BOE was found infringing upon several OLED-related patents developed by Samsung Display. The company stole Samsung's OLED technology by hiring the South Korean firm's engineers and working with their suppliers.
