w you shouldnt but you might. also check the windows folder and make sure there is no garmin stuff in there.

I am getting the same problem as some one earlier posted..when i download this i get 10 or so files..do i have to install every single one to my ppc bc i read threw the posts and nobody answered him about what to do..i had an earlier version of this and it only came with the 3 main exe files..so im an confused on how to install this new version. thanks

The file is compressed multiple times. After you open the first file you will need to run a second extraction on any one of the 10 .RAR files. The program is smart enough to know they all belong together and will combine those files and unzip them into the three .EXE files like you had before. If you are installing this ontop of a previous version you do not need to repeat the steps of making the sw.unl as the one from before will remain.

The easiest way is to BitTorrent them from Ares/Limewire (whatever you use). Do a search for garmin and you'll find a thread for the newest (2009) map. There are links to DL from MegaUpload but f you don't have an account that you can only DL two and then you have to wait two hours, but someone also posted a link to the bittorrent. The thread also has very clear instructions in the first post.

i dont use the program so not sure but this might help. have you tried to use a buffer like have google maps running in the background than use this application?

You shouldn't have to use anything to jump start the GPS. I have garmin set to intermediate driver, that way it uses the aGPS to help get the signal faster. I can tell you that I have never had to change any of the GPS settings to make this or anyother GPS program work. What ROM are you running, and how often do you soft reset?

I am using the newest rom and i soft reset probably once a day...another problem i am having is that when garmin actually finds the signal and is ready to navigate the maps go blank..but whenever it says searching i can see the streets..

I've read the thread and tried this several times this is what I have done. I have
unzipped the GarminMobileXT 4.20.30w pt 1 rar to folder on desktop. I then explore my phone using sync to destination storagecard/Garmin/Apps/WM. I then drag and drop the unzipped pt1 files to this location on phone where I get the 3 files, Garminforwindows, support, and freemap apps. Am I to understand that I have to create a second folder on my desktop and unzip GarminMobileXT rar pt2, then drag to storage card location. Then create another desktop folder for pt3 and so on for the 10 rar files. If so when I tried to perform this process for the pt 2 rar I got Data error File broken and crc fail file broken. If I try to zip pt 2 to original folder I get notified that I will replace files from rar 1. What am I not doing?
Also, do I have to do anything with the par files that were also unzipped? Thanks in advance

You started out right by extracting the contents of the rar to a directory. If you pulled all the files you should have 5, the 3 apps, an info file, and the keygen. You need to sync your PPC with the computer so they are linked, then double click (or open or however you choose to do it) the GarminMobileXTforWindows file. It will ask you where you want to install and you select Mobile Device/Storage Card. It will install, then you do the same with the other two files. I believe earlier in this thread they have instructions on how to use the keygen.

The way the RAR files work, is that when you unzip the part 1 RAR, it knows how many other pieces there are. It will go into the folder and grap all the other pieces, combine them together, and unzip them into the files contained in the archieve. The true purpose of RAR is to be able to split archieves that are very large into files that will fit onto a disk/CD/DVD, or to make them managable to download.(ie you dont have to download a 3 gig file in one sitting).

Having said that, once you decompress the RAR and come up with the 3 files that you mentioned, you are to run those file from your PC with your phone connected via activesync. You DO NOT copy the exe's to your phone and run from there. After you install then follow the insturcitons to Unlock.

Ok, I think I'm at the final stretch. I ran all three apps from the desktop and the garmin software installed to the storage card for all three. I then started the software and went to About selection for the unit Id, which I plugged into the keygenerator which gave me a lengthy code. I then opened up word pad and copied the code to notepad insuring the text extention was not there. I even went to rename the file to make sure the text extension was not showing. I saved the sw.ul file to my folder on desktop. I then went to sync explored the phone til I got to the Garmin folder on the memory card. I then dragged the sw.ul from the desktop to the memory card.


1st question I then took the memory card out of the phone for 3-5 seconds and then re-inserted. I then soft reset the phone I open up the program and I am prompted for:

purchase & go, begin free trial, enter product key, connect to garmin gps. Is this right?

2nd question, do I also need to use key generator for the map software?

Will I also have to create a separate wordpad for the map keygen, and where do i place that unlock. I am so close, please bring me home.

You have to copy the long key generator to word pad then save it by naming it sw.unl. Then insert that saved document into the garmin folder on your storage card. At least that's my understanding. I am still attempting to install this myself. I did go to the folder and check to see if I had not to show extensions of unknown file and it was, I had the .txt at the end of my extension. I deleted that copy, dragged the amended copy w/out .text to the garmin folder so hopefully that was my issue. I performed a soft reset and dragged new sw.unl from the desktop to the storage card/garmin and still I get the trial or buy options. I don't know what else to do here, but hopefully I was able to get you up and running.

Persistence got me this far with my phone so I figured I'd try this approach. This is exactly what I did several times to try and install with the same end negative result. I Unzipped the Rar file to a folder on my desktop. I then ended up with 5 files-3 zips, a Keygen 3_0 exe file and a Garmin Mobile XT 4.20.30w nfo file. I then selected the Garmin mobile XT zip and selected this zip and files were extracted and took me to a Garmin setup screen. I highlighted the storage card and selected install. After a minute or so, the phone prompts me "do I want to install Garmin Mobile XT Software". I select yes and software is installed and goes to EULA agreement which I agree. Auto runs and then says installation has completed successful, "Do I want to run Garmin". Due to the fact that I already have the device ID, several attempts and removals, with no luck previously selecting yes at this prompt, I say no. I then repeat this process of the XT Support File where I receive message on phone that the latest version of GarminXT is already installed do you want to run it. I select no, again from previous installs of selecting yes at this prompt. I then do same process at freebase map. After I get done here. I did not run the software, I closed the program and went to Keygen. I inserted the Device ID I had from previous attempts and received the key. I copied the key to wordpad and saved as sw.unl (no text) to storage card/ Garmin folder and soft reset. I still was prompted that I had a trial, purchase go to bluetooth device picks. What am I doing incorrect. I think of myself as being able to figure things and I'm not a dumb ass but this process is really frustrating me. Is there an obvious mistake someone can point out in my process. I did not use keygen for the 2008map. Was I suppose to get that at the same time I got the key? If so what do i name that file and where do i save it to? I thought that the keygen would automatically load the map. Is that what's holding me back. I have a road trip next week and would like to use this.

keygen don't load the maps map source does...lol....keygen unlocks them in map source...you still gotta download them...it works fine took me days to figure it out...but after that i have installed garmin on all my buddys phones as well as updated actual garmin units for the guys at my job with no issues...

Wow that was long Ok, just becuz u don't see .txt doesn't mean its not there. it probably is but ur explorer is not set to show it. Copy the code onto the notepad on ur computer and save it as Type: All file types. It wont attach a .txt. then copy that back to ur card.

Hey guys. I've read through this thread and I did'nt see anything about my problem unless I am just blind, so sorry if I am repeating this. I have a sprint htc touch with mustangs clean v3 rom and radio 3.37.10. My problem is when i install garmin 4.20.30w I can not pick up any satellites. So i reflashed it again soft reseted after installing the clean v3 rom, and only installed googlemaps. It picked up about 4 satellites. Am I doing something wrong with the garmin install because I put in the sw.unl file correctly. Or is it because i did not soft reset after installing the mustang rom. It only told me to soft reset after the altell rom installation and I did that for sure. Thanks in advance.

you have to run google maps in the background while garmin is running as a buffer to get it to work.

We had the same issue with the Titan when we were running on the leaked ROM. Once we got the official release this problem went away.

alright i read the thread myself and i get that seperated rar files and everytime i try to extract it, it says extract file 2. but i cant. i extracted them all than started at the begining and it said i didnt have it extracted lol im getting lost here lol.


but i wont give up i gotta figure this out but need some help from like kaos. jajaja i feel like an noob cuz i cant get this. idk why its not easy for me like the rest.

For a while this was working great, but recently it started acting up. I hadn't needed to run anything in the background as a buffer, so I don't want to have to change that. However, when I try to open it up it changes my phone's time to 500 pm and the date, hmm, it was going back to the 3rd of May but last time it sent me to the 10th of May (yesterday). This has the affect of placing me somewhere south of Burma (I think), somewhere in the water and quite a ways from San Diego, home sweet home. Then the system loses signal, then picks up again and drops me there, then drops signal, etc. Like I said, this was working smooth as silk for the week following the upgrade. I'm thinking of trying out OMJ's ROM, see if that works better. Also being lazy and don't want to look for a way to adjust the date on the main screen so it's no longer day/month/year. ;-) See if OMJ's has it default that way. Anywho, if I'm just blonde and missed a setting that says Modify my Clock for Grins, smack me and let me know, please? Thanks.

This is a common problem with this version of Garmin. The problem happens when Garmin switches back and forth from accessing your GPS with COM4 to the intermediate driver. No idea why it does this. There is an update that can be found in this thread http://https://www.wckediden.com/sho...ghlight=Garmin I don't notice the clock change as much with this version but it is still there.

yo can i get some advice? i just read that this version has some problems. i did try the newer version to posted a couple pages back still was struggling with it connecting to the gps. and couldnt get the maps or figure out how to make that swl file.


im having problems with both version. just different problems. so if i can get one or the other to work that will be great.

OK the file you download is called "GarminMobileXT4.20.30w.rar" decompress it with WinRAR and you get a total of 17 files. The ONLY file you need to concern yourself with is "Garmin Mobile XT 4.20.30w.part01.rar" when you decompress it with WinRAR it will combine all the other files on it's own.

Run these three files.
GarminMobileXTforWindowsMobile_42030w.exe
GarminMobileXTSupportFiles_4xxxx.exe'
GarminMobileXTFreeBasemap_4xxxx.exe'.

ya i know i did focus on the first one but im saying it doesnt do the rest for me it ask me to manually look for the other folder. like it will say in order to decompress this part 1 you need part 2 than has an browse button. but ill try it again right now but i dont think my luck going to change

ok, sounds like u are opening the file with winrar and not actually extracting it. right click the original file and tell it to extract. You can just open it. also you need to do the same thing on the next. if that doesnzt work i would make sure your winrar is good.

ok well looks like that worked. . .but now i gotta install the other files the voice and maps. that goes into the storage card 2 correct?

ok i installed the other 2 things and idk if it installed or not and than i ddi the keygen and put it in the folder and dont seem like it worked it still ask to begin trial. also it wont pick up gps. it says i need to connect to like another garmin gps device!?

yo dash i aint trying to triple post but you think you know wats wrong on why i cant get the unlock code installed or it to connect to gps it makes it seem like i have to connect to another gps device for it to work.
