Re: How to Dye Your Touch Pro Battery Cover
lets say if i wanted to make a design or something wat would you recommend to stick on the battery cover... i know tape would just come right off... but do you know of anything thatll stick and then come right off after dye??...

Re: How to Dye Your Touch Pro Battery Cover
i would use painting tape. its usually wide and blue.. i believe that works well and will stick while your dying it. be sure to place the tape on a clean dry surface first.

Re: How to Dye Your Touch Pro Battery Cover
I haven't personally tried it yet, but have used vinyl in heated situations and it handles being buffed on, so you might give it a shot. I'm talking about the stuff that they use to put lettering on big trucks. You can find it at places like autozone and stuff like that. Not sure how the that or the pinstriping will work, since you are literally boiling it.
I would suggest that before you apply the vinyl, you wiped down the cover with some alcohol to make sure that there isn't anything on it. You will want to lay out your design before hand, once you stick it down, repositioning it is a pain. Hopefully by the end of the coming week, I will have something to show for this. |

Re: How to Dye Your Touch Pro Battery Cover
yeah that was my thoughts too... the boiling would undo the stick and then i was thinking about maybe using some kind of like really sticky stuff that would just become weak with a boil... or idk if someone can figure this out it would be awesome... don't have a pro but have the touch vogue but am trying to switch for a mogul and am interested... even if i can try with my vogue but it's now hard to get extra covers lol... please let me know if any answers come up...

Re: How to Dye Your Touch Pro Battery Cover
instead of dying black what do you guys think of this black Altell back cover?
Im worried that if i dye it will rub off on my clothes, since you guys mentioned it will fade in a few months.. Does it fade to the point of seeing silver underneath? you guys did an awesome job with the bright colored back covers. |

Re: How to Dye Your Touch Pro Battery Cover
this is such an awesome thread lol, im going to do this to my back cover today. question, are there any colors that don't work as well as others, now im not talking brand, im talking color, like would pink not do as well as black simply because it is naturally a lighter color? i think im gonna do purple today, my fav color lol.
|
#79
|
Re: How to Dye Your Touch Pro Battery Cover
once you go dark you can't go light... so if your gonna do purple make sure you don't leave in for too long or your back will turn black or like a really dark shade of purple... so be CAREFUL!!!... and you can always dry and put in for longer if you don't get the color you want.. but the longer it's in the longer the color will stay.... so aim for a darker type of purple... only use RIT type die.. i and a lot of us use the powder type... see if you can aim for a light purple first and if you make a mistake... hey.. atleast its a dark purple lol... good luck... not hard.. just remember.. TOO HOT will warp your back case causing your stylus to fall out or just dumb stuff like it won't go on right.. yeah just read first intro to this thread it goes into instructions... and don't leave flame on the whole time.. on and off every 4-5 min... that's what i did... i also read somewhere you can do it in the microwave so check into that one too.. may be easier to view what color your trying to get to... ;)

Re: How to Dye Your Touch Pro Battery Cover
too long, mine exploded in the microwave...yeah i would just put it in for 20 second intervals and see where its at each time, you want it where you can see the bubble forming, but the water is not quite boiling

Re: How to Dye Your Touch Pro Battery Cover

Re: How to Dye Your Touch Pro Battery Cover
Hey there, Well i just did this and WOW, it looks awesome. BTW, if you use a glass bowl, the dye does not stick to glass, put the bowl in the microwave for like 1 min and it does the job a pot and stove would do, i also had some old throw away chop sticks which were great for stirring and checking on the cover periodically. total process took me about 10 mins at best. and the glass bowl washed totally clean. and no dye came off when i buffed the cover in the final process, weird.... but color came out a dark amethyst color. woohoo

Re: How to Dye Your Touch Pro Battery Cover
you have to remember that you can only go from light to dark and not a dark color to a light color...... you can get replacements for free most of the time ast the service center..... just walk in there without one on their and see if they have some or just tell them whats up and cut a deal that you will do one for them if they throw a couple your way....

Re: How to Dye Your Touch Pro Battery Cover
Hey,
I just wanted to say thanks for the tips. It went off without a hitch. Now, instead of having the sprints snobby color for the battery door it's now a deep blue. Funny thing is I picked a royal blue dye instead of the navy blue dye. Not sure if it's been mentioned but it's a probably won't hurt to say it again if it already has been said. "Pick a very light color and start there because odds are it'll be darker than you first think," would be a good tip for noobs. Thanks again for the tips, i'm very happy with the new color. :D Mike |
