Try this go to the device driver and see if there's a yellow exclamation pointing the the sync.if it is go ahead and uninstall it and reboot ,then uninstall active sync,again reboot.once all that is accomplish then reinstall active sync.DO not connect device yet.again reboot. and reboot your device too. and then try and reconnect.hope this make sense. If you stopped a bunch of stuff from starting then I can almost garuntee that there is the problem. Do a regular boot up with everything enabled and see if it connects. Then you know that the problem is there.
