[NEWS] LG Gets Its Android On with Sliding GW620

LG can stand to learn a thing or two from Motorola or Samsung with cooler sounding names, like Omnia or Cliq rather than GW620, but alas the headset is coming soon and it will be an Android headset. The Korean manufacturer has committed itself to Windows Mobile, and despite a warm relationship with Microsoft to attempt and deliver 13 new handsets by the end of next year, LG is looking to expand its product portfolio with an Android offering.

The GW620 is a QWERTY slider that looks like it is a mashup between Motorola's newly announced Moto CLIQ and the Windows Mobile HTC Touch Pro2. However, according to reports, the LG device will be a bare-bone model, lacking any customization on top of the Android build. Unlike the CLIQ, which will come with Motorola's UI overlay and customizations called Moto BLUR, LG will not be including its customized S-Class UI.

Specs-wise, the LG model will have a smaller touchscreen than the HTC Touch Pro2, measuing 3-inch. The camera is rumored to be 5 megapixels. Unlike the HTC T-Mobile G1 and the Android HTC Hero, the LG GW620 will come with minimal buttons.

The device will be headed for European markets in the fourth quarter. It looks like the Moto CLIQ, which will be available in Europe as the Moto DEXT later this year, will be getting some competition.

man android starting off slow but isnt messing aroudn anymore holy shit, they are getting all the major cell phone brands in on this and they are going to be huge...... they will for sure pass wm quick at this pace and they are shooting to be right up there with the iphone user wise before the iphone starts going to other carriers.

that phone doesnt look half bad. I still wouldnt buy anything thats not made by HTC though. I wouldnt mind seeing more specs on it though it might turn out to be a nice entry lvl competitor to the G1 style android device.

why not, you should always try new and such, one company may make a better phone for wm, one for android, and so on... all companies are going to add special little features also and im def a fan of htc but also enjoy the new devices through different companies.

yep they shore ar puching forward on expanding to ohter brands. this will keep there apps database growing also the underdog is taking over lol

they are making their move for sure, if you notice when apple took down their hold a little bit with less commercials, news, and such android and google stepped right in and stole the spot light from them..... google and android were smart in how they marketed this and on how they are linking up with many different brands so they cover all their bases for the die hard brand name fans like many of us our with htc.

I agree android and google are smart for putting their OS on so many different brands because for some people they like sticking with a brand they are fimiliar with or just prefer and android is on HTC, samsung, LG, motorola etc. and more to come
