How to Solve HTC Hero Sync Problem in Windows 7
As some of you probably know by now, HTC has been making some pretty spectacular pushes on the smartphone segment over the past couple of years, one of the company's latest masterpieces, announced only a short while ago, being the Hero model, which packs some of the most coveted features in the modern mobile world, including here Google's famous mobile-targeted operating system, the Android. Now, since this is a next-generation handheld, most of us would expect it to be able to work quite well with all the next-generation operating systems out there, the most outstanding such issue being the fact that people who are already running Windows 7 (either the 64-bit or the 32-bit version of the Microsoft OS) are having some serious trouble sync-ing their Hero to their computer. Well, perhaps not all of them, but it seems to be a common enough problem in order to be worth providing an alternate sync guide, should you be forced to go through this kind of experience. However, it would seem that Simon Britton from The Asylum might have found a very interesting and useful workaround for this issue. Given the fact that we were hard pressed to sync our brand new HTC Hero to our Windows 7 machine, we tested the workaround for ourselves and saw that it actually worked in real life, and decided to share it with you. So, this is what you should do in order to get your HTC Hero all sync-ed on your computer running Windows 7: First and foremost, you'll have to download the latest specialized sync tool from HTC, namely HTC Sync 2.04, right here, on Softpedia, and then install it on your computer. However, that won't do you much good simply because, after running the software, your computer won't immediately recognize the HTC Hero. The way to go is to manually update the HTC drivers from Windows 7, using the Windows Vista drivers. There are two ways you can accomplish this, either by installing the HTC Sync software on a machine running Windows Vista and then copying them from there, or simply getting them right here on Softpedia, in .zip format (both Windows 7 64-bit drivers and Windows 7 32-bit drivers). As Mr. Britton informs us, after you've gotten the drivers, all that remains to be done is to place them in the right folder, namely either C:\Program Files (x86)\HTC\HTC Driver\Driver Files\Vista_x64 (for the Windows 7 64-bit) or C:\Program Files (x86)\HTC\HTC Driver\Driver Files\Vista_x86 (for the Windows 7 32-bit). Then, you'll have to update the Driver from the “Devices and Printers†menu in Windows 7 (where the Android phone is shown). After you're done with this step of the install process as well, we simply have to reboot your machine, just to be sure, and then Windows 7 should automatically recognize the HTC Hero. Code:
