[NEWS] There’s no iPhone 17 without Samsung, here’s why

Samsung plays a crucial part in Apple's supply chain, supplying it with various components that are integral to its devices, particularly the iPhone. So despite being its biggest rival, Samsung's components business ensures that it also shares in others' success.



The company has played a major role in OLED supply ever since Apple shifted to OLED panels for the iPhone, as Samsung Display remains one of the few companies that can provide OLED panels of the quality and scale that Apple requires.

As Apple sees strong demand for the latest iPhone 17 series, it's highlighting the company's continued reliance on Samsung Display. The company is reportedly providing nearly 65% of the OLED panels for the iPhone 17.



LG Display is also a part of the supply chain, supplying Apple with roughly 34% of the OLED panels. China's BOE has tried hard to jump on this gravy train but so far its share of the shipments is believed be around 1.4%.



Samsung Display remains the largest supplier of OLED panels to Apple by volume. It's supplying panels for all four models, iPhone 17, Pro, Pro Max, and the iPhone 17 Air. While Apple is believed to have desired for BOE to play a bigger role, quality issues with its panels have resulted in far fewer orders.



Better demand for the iPhone 17 series will also lead to more earnings for Samsung Display, as Apple will ramp up production to meet demand. Market analysts are expecting a jump in earnings for the company on the back of solid OLED demand from Apple.
