I've attached a txt file with the directions to install. check this list against the instructions you are using. make sure you follow it exactly. it takes some patience the first time you install it. it took me a couple of times to finally get it right.

OK, Im pretty good at following directions, but I am getting lost here. First the directions in the first post say to go: “to directory IMG and run CNNANT2010_Update_ENU.msi to install it.” I installed that on my PC as directed, then it says to go to “Under the "Utilities" menu, select "Get Unit ID". Copy your Unit ID.” I did that, but cant find my Touch Pro even after I run Google Maps. You said to “Install Folder 1: GarminMobileXTforWindowsMobile_42030w.exeâ₠¬Â but I dont see that.
What am I doing wrong? Should I not have installed "CNNANT2010_Update_ENU.msi" on my PC?

the version number, 4.20.30, was from the previous build for the ppc app. its the same install instructions for the ppc with the newest ppc app portion.

follow the directions in the first post to install to your pc. the text file i attached was meant for installing to the TP.

I don't understand what you mean by you can't find the TP. are you not seeing it via activesync, or Garmin doesn't find the GPS???

also the attached text file is the original install instructions from the person who invented the workaround. the procedure has not changed, for installing the software to your TP, the only thing that has "Changed" is theupdated maps.

can you post some screen shots???

I mean that the instruction say to install to the PC, then "connect your GPS (in my case Touch Pro) to your PC." and then "get unit ID". When I do that the Garmin does not see my TP, Active sync does, but Garmin says that "some devices were found, but none have the necessary capabilities..." that's the part I'm stuck at. I'll post screen shot if that will help.

ok. prior to getting the unit id, unplug the TP, then run garmin standalone. you should be taken thru an install process, which eventually shows the unit id. thats when you run the keyg#n and leave it open for the numbers. after you have done that, you can install the maps.

im at work right now, but i will take a second look at your post tonight.

No, I meant run the .exe file on your phone.

Ok. Lets try this. Forget everything you’ve done so far. Delete all files on your TP.
1. Make sure you have an active sync connection with the TP.
2. Download This fileit’s the garmin app for your TP.
3. After download, un-rar the file.
4. Goto into the garmin folder and start with folder 1. you will notice all the folders have zipped files. just extract them in thier folders and lauch the setup.exe file in each.
5. Start installation of 'GarminMobileXTforWindowsMobile_5.00.20w.exe' from PC through ActiveSync.
6. Select your Storage Card as destination.
7. During the installation, files will be copied to your storage card.
8. Goto folder 2 and ‘GarminMobileXTFreeBasemap_4xxxx.exe' for Garmin's base map.
9. Goto folder 3 and install 'GarminMobileXTSupportFiles_4xxxx.exe' for voice files.
10. To be safe unplug your phone and soft reset
11. After bootup run GarminMobileXT on your phone.
12. Eventually, after several user prompts, you will see two lines of unit numbers and something else, it eludes me right now. Anyway one is the id of your phone and the other is the id of your sd card. You might have to run both sets of numbers to get the unit id right. But in most cases, after you have done this once, you can transfer the card to another phone and just launch the garmin.exe file and install. (FYI the garmin software uses the SD card info to register not the phone. That’s who they can ship their package on a card for your phone and charge you extra for the card)
13. Anyway the Unit ID and use keygen to create unlock key.
14. Copy the key into a text document via notepad and save it as “sw.nl”
15. Save it to your desktop for the next step. Close notepad.
16. Using the options in win explorer un-check the box about “Hide extensions for known file types”
17. You should now see the file as sw.nl.txt.
18. Using win explorer take the .txt off of the extension and yes to save.
19. Copy 'sw.unl' to '\Storage Card\Garmin'.

By now you’ve pulled your hair out, here’s an easy fix. Click this link to get the updated maps as an unlocked file. The link will take you to linksave. (All the links are rapidshare and safe, I’m using the software/maps on my phone right now. linksave just hides the rapid links)

You will need all the files BUT they will extract to an unlocked .img file. Simply copy the file to the Garmin folder on your sd card and your done.

I think thats about it. I know I didn't "Code" the links I was trying to keep the post clean and in order.

i hope i've explained it ok. i followed the above and it's not failed me. I really don't know what more I can help with, without seeing some screen shots. sorry.

Theres a typeo step 14. should say save the file as "sw.unl" NOT "sw.nl" sorry for the confusion. maybe a mod could hook me up and make the correction.

the blue part that says "this link" in my post above yours has the like to rapidshare for the garmin xt software for your phone. NOT the maps.

OK, well, I managed to install this on my TP, but I'm sort of stuck at this point:
(FYI the garmin software uses the SD card info to register not the phone. That’s who they can ship their package on a card for your phone and charge you extra for the card)"
The software did not actually install anything on the phone, its all on the card. So to run the GarminMobileXT I had to navigate to the card and run the "QuePPC" file. That took me to a startup screen where I could try for free, enter a key and a few other things. But I did not see the user prompts u speak of or the unit ID #s.
It did ask me to connect to a Garmin GPS then scanned bluetooth but nothinb happend. There were 2 .cab files on the card, but when I tried to run them it said that the previous version had to be removed, ect.
Am I getting close?

Kinda. I saw on other boards were people don't have teh garmin mobile xt.exe shortcut on the root of thier storage card.

yes installing on the sd card is correct.

you should have two folders and one garmin .exe shortcut on the root of the sd. like in the screen shot.

all you should have to do at most is launch the shorcut.

anyway, the queppc.cab is the same thing.

as i mentioned earlier run google maps first and emable the gps.
leave it running and launch garmin. don't worry about the bluetooth notifications. garmin on its own doesn't see the gps without it being activated teh first time, then it's all good.

during the install go ahead with the "test" version.

eventually you should see a screen with a bunch of info. the unit id is in small text.

honestly i've never had this much trouble of installing garmin. it sounds like your missing a step in the process. without sitting down with your computer and TP it's kinda hard to see what your doing or how to help. the only other way i can think of helping is if you post screen shots every time the screen changes during the install process so we can see what you are doing.

I know, its getting close to being more trouble than its worth, and I do appreciate your help and patience. Here's what I got. I did see the GarminXT file in the root of my card and I was mistaken before b/c there is a Garmin XT icon on my phone, so I can run it from there. When I do, however, I get a basic menu giving me 4 options: 1) purchase and go
2) Begin Free trial
3) Enter product key
4) connect to a Garmin GPS.
If I select either 1 or 2, i get a msg saying "connecting to Garmin to being trial period" then immediately after another msg saying "server could not process request, contact customer support."
If is selct 4 it scans for bluetooth and stalls (and I do have Google GPS running)
If i select 3, it asks for the #, which I cant put in w/o the Unit ID.
Am I still Kinda close?

when you first launch the app does the app have a "prompt" asking if you want to connect to teh garmin server or never? if so select never.

anyway, this weekend or sooner, depends on what i'm doing, tomorrow night I'm off to Holando for diner, i'll run this on my wife's TP. I've personally ran this 4 times and never had the trouble you've had. its "odd" to say the least. and frustrating. can you drive down to orlando?? i can fix it there.

How about following this :
1. position your mouse anywhere on your screen,
2. right click
3. Select 'New' 'Text Document'
4. copy & paste the 25 char unlock code generated
5. Select 'File' 'Save As'
6. Under 'save as type' select 'All Files (*.*)'

7. Type into 'File name' with 'sw.unl'

Just to relate my experience when I create the SW.UNL file for my symbian phone.
Somehow just saving the edited file as default 'new text document.txt' and then renaming the file to 'SW.UNL' doesnt work for me.

Tetra speaks the truth bro. I also had a hiccup in creating my sw.unl file . I did exactly what he said and VOILA! it works. : ) anyways , I have a touch pro so I know it will work for you also.
--------- New Post Merged on 18/8/2009 at 10:28:34 --------

don't forget this either

22. choose the bottom one (last one, the 4th), "use garmin bt devices"
23. select AGREE on the warning bla bla.
24. if there is prompt to search Bluetooth GPS device and ask you to go or stop. just click STOP (no need to search at this moment).
25. On the main screen see bottom and click "SETTINGS"
26. On the next screen see bottom right and click "DOWN ARROW"
27. You will see "ABOUT" click it.
28. You will see: "ESN ID" or "UNIT ID" or "CARD ID"
29. Write all of them in the piece of paper. double check it. don't miss one word.
30. click BACK and BACK again. and click EXIT.

--------- New Post Merged on 18/8/2009 at 10:29:13 --------

meaning when asked choose the 4th option

--------- New Post Merged on 18/8/2009 at 10:47:46 --------

i just installed this to a stock TP.
1. when asked choose the 4th option, or connect to a garmin gps. it will not find anything and end the serch.
2. goto teh main "where to screen"
3. then goto tools
4. go to settings
5. down arrow to about
6. select about adn there is the device id and card id.
7. write down the card id.
8. unplug your phone and close the garmin app.
9. run the kg copy and paste into a text document the save as sw.unl.9DO NOT CLOSE THE KEYG#N!!!!!) make sure it's not a .txt. document. as you save it there is an option for *.* or all files. it will save it as a .unl file.
10. save the .unl file in the garmin folder on the sd card.
11. restart garmin and it should go straight to the where to screen.
12. now run the key#$# to get your map serial

like i said i ran and istalled this as i wrote this part of the post.

OK, now, I feel I am getting "kinda close." This worked up to a point, when I saved the file as the .unl and restated Garmin it did take me to the "Were to" screen, I ran the key gen for the maps choosing "garmin City navigator 2009" I wrote done the #, but could not see anywhere to enter the # until I went to "garmin online > subscription status." There I clicked "activate" where I was prompted for the "Activation Key." I tried both #s (map unlock code and unit software unlock code). Is that the right thing to do? I guess I can keep trying to generate #s, but want to make sure that's correct.

Yes, I followed the blue steps to this point. After I restarted Garmin it took me to the "where to" screen. From there IDK where to put in the map serial #. It seems that the only place is at "garmin online > subscription status" but u say not to do that. I haven't figure out how to do screen shots yet (never really used that) so it may take me a few mins to figure that out.
Where do you put in the map serial # and which map do you select? The first post says this is Garmin 2010 but the choices in the keygen are only to 2009.

the map serial is named"gmapsupp.unl" make sure the .txt extension change to .unl

it goes in the "STORAGE CARD" and find GARMIN FOLDER. put the file "gmapsupp.unl" there along with your country map (gmapsupp.img).

OK so I pasted 2 files into the Gamin folder on my card: the "SW.unl" with the Software # and the other the "gmapsupp.unl" with the map # I generated; there is a "gmawckedmap.img" (10.0MB) file there already. When I try to go to an address I get a msg that "detailed maps are required to use this feature. Visit Garmin tech support..."
How close am I now? and I owe u a beer!

did you install the unlocked maps from link save?? you'll need it. again it's the whole USA. Or download the map pack from the opening post of this thread.

I thought I did unlock the maps. I unzip both the files from the opening post and the ones in the link u sent. I saw a file called "garminMobileXTFreeBaseMap.exe" that I installed to my card. Are there other map files? If so, what are they called?

it's supposed to. the files are hosted on rapidshare, where you need to download them from.

in the middle of the screen is an "anti spam" number you have to enter into the text box to get to the rapidshare links.

dude, seriously....................are you kidding????............ the map file is at least 1gb and usually split into 200mb files, your phone CAN'T handle files that large. why don't you use a computer?????? i'm confused as to why you would want to do that.....................I got nothin for that.

i meant for the initial install process. i ran into a "hicup" where my phone was banned from the garmin server during the install cause i messed up the setup. seeing as how some of the users are having issues with the install i figured i'd help them aviod making the same mistakes i've made.

Damn, now I'm not really sure what the hell I unlocked or if I unlocked anything. This has become the installing from HELL!. I do have "locked" maps on my pc. Instruction #8 in the first post says to run mapinstall and to select all states and provinces. I finally figured out where that was and I went there and the software found my TP and storage card. There it says "City Navigator North America NT 2010.1, and says to click on map region to install it, but when I click on a state, nothing happens.

ok, hahaha. kaos uploaded the basemaps and the 2010 updates. which i assume by your post. when you highlight the state or region you want there is a transfer function, i'm in the process of installing my apps from a win 7 upgrade and i have not got to the garmin install yet. SO, give me a day to install it. and run through the install process again. but. the linksave i keep trumping up is unlocked and you don't need to to anything but transfer the the file to your sd. but it's 1gb and you need to have a large sd card. i don't think you ever mentioned the size of your card, and i don't think i've asked. personally, i have a 16gb with 12gb free. yea, i pretty much save ppc stuff. sometimes to a fault. but i digress. give me a day and i'll get back to you, unless kaos can jump in and give you the answer....

go here:

fyi, this is NOT a spam site. to keep your uploads from being reported and removed from rapidshare, or for that matter any upload site, people use "protection" sites. linksave is that kind of site. goto the link and you'll see a text box in the middle of the screen with "password" above it. enter the text in the box and click next. the next page is rapid share links. i think there's 10 links total. once you download all the links un-rar them and you'll have a 1gb or so entire usa map file which you drop into the garmin folder as your map. just copy and paste.

it's supposed to. the files are hosted on rapidshare, where you need to download them from.

in the middle of the screen is an "anti spam" number you have to enter into the text box to get to the rapidshare links.

ok, thats what it's suppposed to do, it's pretty much normal

dude, seriously....................are you kidding????............ the map file is at least 1gb and usually split into 200mb files, your phone CAN'T handle files that large. why don't you use a computer?????? i'm confused as to why you would want to do that.....................I got nothin for that.

good luck with that.
ok it's all good but i think you missunderstood me i am using my phone as a modem not down loading it to my phone and as far as download files and there sizes i have down load everything else except tese maps so dont know why i'm having this problem but it says something about the ip address that my pc has asigned is something or this file will download to slow but anyway ive downloaded way bigger files in the recent/distant past also i can not get comcast cable where i'm at right now or i would but until then my cellphone has kept me up and running so like i said i will get to a stronger connection and try again but thanks again and i will get back to you guys and let you know what happens from a dsl speed or better

PS thanks to all the staff and users at Wckediden for wishing me a happy 35th birthday hahahahaha! thanks D/\SH for the MOD it still runs like a dream!

OK, so I went to that site, got the map, put it in my card. The problem is that I dont seem to have unlocked any maps and I'm not sure how to unlock. I followed the instructions in the first thread and went to mapinstall and tried to select all the states, but that isnt working.
How exactly do I unlock the maps?

Thanks, dude, I have been trying to do what the "countless" others have suggested, but it isn't working. I have followed all the instructions, but they're a bit confusing b/c some of the steps suggested do not work. Yes, it's possible I'm doing something wrong, but I got to the point were I try to run Mapinstall and the software says its going to unlock "garmin City Navigator North America NT 2010.1"
When I try to "select all states and provinces" like instruction #8 says, nothing gets selected.
That's where I am stuck.

it should only ask to unlock 2010 maps not by state.their is your first mistake. it will unlock morth america from there you just select what you want select tools and transfer to device...you have to be connected via usb cable

I am connected via USB. The instructions say:
"8. Run MapInstall. Select all states and provinces. Sit back and wait.
That's it." So IDK how that is my "first mistake."
When I run Mapinstall I get a box that says:
"the following map products are currently locked, City Navigator North America NT 2010.0."
When I click "next" I go to
"Find Device"
"Garmin Mobile XT"
So I click "Storage Card" under "Available memory locations." Then next: That takes me to a map of the USA which says: Instructions: Select a map region to load it by clicking it. To deselect, click it again."
Then nothing happens

I am gonna throw my computer. Ok windows vista can not find this anywhere. I have done this on two other phones (old pc) with out a problem but i can not find this

7. Open Windows Explorer
and select your GPS.
In the directory Garmin, delete gmapprom.img or gmapsupp.img
(should be about a 1 GB file).
You can backup this file first in case something goes wrong.

please help thanks

its like asking whos hotter. Jessica alba...or big mama.

garmin is way better. i have both
Sprint Nav is nice, but like GoogleMaps or Bing, it requires a data signal AND GPS reception to work. Go to an area with no data & you just lost your map.

Garmin, Tom Tom & the like store the maps on your device. All you need is GPS reception & you're good.

Sprint Nav is a much smaller app with fewer features. As far as navigating goes, generally, you won't really miss those features because they'll be duplicated in other apps on your phone. But, it's still nice to have all the goodies in one spot.

A plus for Sprint Nav, Bing, & GoogleMaps is that their maps are constantly being updated automatically. For updated Garmin maps, you have to go through the map updating process, which we have made perfectly clear isn't so simple.

I've used both types of nav software extensively, and both have their pluses. For me, though, while I keep Garmin on my Touch Pro, if I had to do with only one, I'd go with Bing. The maps for the Atlanta, GA area are more up to date and more thorough than any of the others... Might be different in your area, of course.

garmin simply is better cause it has commercial routing. i use it daily...as far as updating after downloading takes me 1hr to completely update.. the only time i spend is pressing yes overwrite.lol so like aminute is interactive...and as far as getting the update....Wckediden knows im on it...i usually update within first few week if not days of a leak.

Well, with all due respect, it's better for you since it has commercial routing. For folks who don't need that, the feature is useless.

That being said, I think Garmin blows Sprint Nav out of the water. I wasn't trying to say Sprint Nav was better... just clarifying for iTouch24 some of the differences.

If I were to have only one of each TYPE of GPS (that being constant connection like GoogleMaps/Bing or maps based like Garmin,) I'd have Bing & Garmin. I could go into why I like Garmin over Tom Tom & iGo, but that'd be a mouthful.
