signal question
Something wierd is happening with my phones... earlier today after I did the insurance claim to get my mogul, I did an esn swap back to my fusic so that I could have a phone to use. Well the main problem with my touch is that it wasn't getting any signal, even 5 feet away from a sprint repeater... got one at work (radioshack) and everyone else there with sprint gets excellent coverage. Well as soon as I swapped back to the fusic I got 5 bars, well 5 hours later I am down to 0-1 bars, which is the same problem as my touch had... I am getting frustrated... the steps of which I have tried include powercycling, master reset, putting in ##MLS#, mdn and checking msid, and even verifying the esn with sprint... Now I double checked that my account is in good standing as well, and that there aren't any tower outages in my area... Anyone have any ideas of what could be going wrong? or does sprint just hate me? (perhaps they didn't like me changing my calltones with a smart phone :( ...)
The really wierd part is on my fusic, when I put in my MSL and go to view, both mdn and msid show up, but when i go to edit, my mdn is there, but my msid shows up as 000-000-0000 that is the main reason of which i double checked my mdn and msid with sprint. maybe this would help? makes refresh rate faster for signal..
To do this, you will need your MSL, which only Sprint (or your provider) can provide you. Open up the phone app and dial ##778# (PST). You will be asked to enter your MSL. Enter it, and you will be brought into the provisioning of your phone. From the top left, select Modem Settings. On this page, your Slot Cycle Index (SCI) is how often your phone polls the tower for incoming calls, etc. This value is 1.28 seconds multiplied by 2^value (i.e 0=1.28 secs, 1=2.56secs) with 0 fastest, 7 slowest. The default is 2, but lowering it to 1 hasn't noticeably affected my battery life, and roughly 2.5 second (SCI 1) response time is far more reasonable than roughly 5 seconds (SCI 2) try it out... might help...remember to press thank you |

don't worry, i have been pressing that button! I will try this when I get my mogul, the funny thing is that for about an hour the fusic had a great signal, then it died... thanks, that definatly sounds like it should work!
sad thing is that I have the msls for both the touch and the fusic memorized... and my msid... I've done some hacks on the fusic that have involved that. |

A little more in depth of my problem
On the 12th of feb, I finally got my touch, and did an esn swap onto my account. around the 26th the touch started acting funny, it would only roam (i checked the settings...) i put it on the sprint only setting, and still nothing.... so after calling sprint they thought it was a problem with the phone so I did an insurance claim (got the phone from ebay...) and in the mean time they swapped me back to my fusic. for about an hour it was getting full bars for service, and then it did the exact same thing that my touch did, would only roam and would get at most 2 bars of service. These are the things of which I have tried so far - hard and soft resets on both phones, verified the esn/msl/mdn/msid on both phones, tried roaming only settings, sprint only, automatic settings. I have made 4 calls to sprint technical support, and called 3 sprint reps. (I work for radioshack) one of the reps called his boss, and she said that she couldn't make any changes to the account because the phone is still in the process of upgrading from the touch to the fusic (this was today, the swap was done on the 28th, god i hope that it doesnt take that long for an upgrade to go through...), well, I called sprint yet again, and they had me repeat the steps taken previously, and still very little service. The really weird thing is that we have a sprint repeater in the radioshack store of which I work, and the closer that I get to it, the more signal that I lose, I.E. 20 feet away I can get 2 bars, and 2 feet away, I get nothing... The rest of the associates that have sprint get between 4-5 bars in the store... There aren't any outages for towers in my area... I am getting really frustrated... I can't even access powervision, send texts or browse the internet on either phone... Ok, my question for you sprint Gurus, Have any of you had a similar problem, or know a possible resolution? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! Or is there anyone from sprint of which I can contact that is competent enough to solve my problem? I tried kaos's solution as well, and set it to 1... |

if you wanna try reflashing the prl..I have it listed step by step in ppc6800 help.its a sticky post.edit is this a mogul now? and if so what rom? i had a issue with 2,17 had a roam problem sprint ignored....i would try the beta 3.16..you dont need to unlock for that...

im having similar problems, except my phoe was fine for the first month then all of a sudden the service is giving me trouble (touch). i go into roam way more and i get a tond of dropped calls. i never get over 2 bars. took it to sprint and they siad it was fine, just did a PRL update and no fix. my brother has a Sanyo 9000 and his service is flawless in the same areas.

good news, the problem was with the touch! When I went into the sprint store to do an insurance claim on it, the rep forgot to turn the touch off when he did the esn swap, so the fusic never programmed correctly, but when I received my replacement (actually I got a mogul ) yesterday and did the swap, everything is working well! Thanks for your help guys! as always you guys rule! PHEW FINALLY HAVE A WERKING (phinetically spelled...) PHONE!
