Do I have to activesync upgrade radio and

Okay, I've read all the stuff I can find, still reading. Have a Mogul, downloaded the ruu and nbh and bootloader. Got my sd card formatted. I have a sd reader built into my satellite. Do I have to use activesync? I've backed up my contacts to mail2web and dashwire. Sprint's been charging me for that wireless backup thing, but it doesn't work on the Mogul. I don't want to use activesync because it keeps freaking out whenever I try to sync my contacts. Since it's a relatively new phone, do I need to upgrade the radio? Don't know how to find the version. I did the ##778# and have my msid, the mdn is the same, and I don't know how to find the MSL. I know I'm new and I don't want to sound like a total dimwit, but I'm ready to admit that I'm a tad scared of bricking my Mogul. I've got it down that I need to put the unlocker in first. Then the ruu needs to be on the card. Then flash away. Am I way off base? I'm still downloading stuff that I've found, so I'm also continuing to search before I start doing anything. Thanks for all the information and the awesome site. I get distracted easily, so I've started writing everything down.
