PC Freezing
hey guys i just got a new pc and i reformatted the hard drive than added windows xp to it...... but out of no where it freezes and no matter what i try i can get it to stop. the whole screen just stops in place and i have to press and hold the button for the pc to turn off. when i feel the case it isnt hot or anything...... any ideas on what could be causing this? could it be a motherboard issue, or a overheating issue of processor or what? let me know when you all get a chance to see if i can get this baby fixed :>
Thanks in advance D/\SH |

Re: PC Freezing
just seen this dashy. It can be a whole lot of things that cause that.
1. programs 2. Hardware 3.spam ware ad ware and etc. The only way to find out is get in to your task manger and monitor it to see which running program is going up... also what is your ram (memory) size ? that can also contribute to it. |

Re: PC Freezing
100% agreeed with PB.....If it only freezes when you use the internet, then i would say its a adware or spyware issue. If it freezes regardless, then it could be a hardware issue...

Re: PC Freezing
Hard to say, DASH.
1) Formatted and clean install of XP corporate. (confirmed good) Correct? 2) System otherwise runs fine with normal use, but freezes as soon as you connect to internet. Correct? What browser are you using? (assuming Firefox cause that's what all the cool kids use) Have you installed any other software? Have you installed service packs? Have you installed any antivirus, antispyware, firewall, etc? How are you connecting to the internet? DSL, Cable, Aircard, etc? And last, but not least, did this come with VISTA? If so, where did you find your XP drivers? HP does not like to supply XP drivers for their new pc's. Could be a driver issue. |

Re: PC Freezing
I'm guessing driver issue based on the my experience with trying to get HP/Compaq VISTA machines to run XP and the inevitable driver issues that come with it.
But without more information, there is no way to tell. |

Re: PC Freezing
Dash can you access the bios and play around in it (navigationally) if you can we can likely eliminate a bios/motherboard problem.
How many beeps do you hear on startup? Is this same hard drive reformatted or a new hdd added to your pc? I can walk you through a few tests tonight if youd like. I have A+ so i can help you best i can in this dept. What version xp are you using corp (one thats pirated from net with driverpacks?) Try to access safe mode so we can get ahold of your system logs and fin the problem (this is done by pressing F8 on boot and holding to you see a menu with choices. choose safe mode with networking. |
