This site issues
I love this site. Love it, and visit it about 50 times a day. But it is so slow lately that it is becoming hard to get on pages and page transitions take forever and ever. Sometimes I just can not get on at all and I have a rocket ship speed internet connection at my house and office.
Is there a reason the site is just so slow these days? Is there anything we can do to help? Just curious. |

Re: This site issues
please understand that I am not complaining, just wondering. The site IS running quicker right now, but still no where near as fast as other sites that are way way busier then this one. Again, I just want this site to be the best it can be since it is one of my favorite sites.
Thanks everyone. |

Re: This site issues
well it's going to happen at times especially when you have alot of people browsing the forum and another issue that can be too is people downloading stuff that will also slow down the site but not by much..The site is optimized to the max with the hardware that i have ..plus i have two other site hosted on the server.. That too will cause some issues. but since i've benchmarked the server, Wckediden is geeting alot of incoming so unless Santa Claus gives me my dream server...then we'll be flying to Mars in mock 5...lol
but the sluggish only happens on peak time. enjoy:pleasantry: |

Re: This site issues
coderez - for some reason I am not getting emails notifying of new posts from this site the past 2 days?
1)I have everything checked like normal to send instant email notifications, etc. 2) I have always received email notifications in the past from this site with no problems until the past few days. 3)I have checked my spam folder and they are not going there. Just wanted you to know about this issue. Hopefully this inquiry is posted in the correct location. Thank you. |

Re: This site issues
I too have noticed slower site speeds, but what this site provides me is worth the small wait. The time and effort by staff and developers, designers, owners is awesome!! One question maybe its just me, but is anyone getting a random pop-up ad page with Wckediden written across the top header with a sprint ad and cable tv ad "Rescue Me" (was the one I remember). Is this a Wckediden pop-up to help offset costs? Thanks

Re: This site issues
quick question/concern....as you already may know, due to a personal situation i was forced to quickly piece together a "frankenstein" pc from peices i had and found here and there because of the loss of my home pc. so i'm not sure that its something site related or some unforseen issue with my pc, but the last three postings i've created completely disapear for a day (as far as i can see via viewing my posts/threads and new threads, etc.) or so and if i get a reputation comment "thanks" it says on this site that it was for my posting in thread "N/A"

An observation. I love this site and everyone has been very helpful. However, I have 10mps service and this site has become very slow. This began a month or so ago...sometimes I get the dreaded 404 error as well. If there's anything I can do to help speed things up let me know.

Re: This site issues
Guys - my computer was hit again with a virus and trojans after trying to download something from this site. this is the second time that my entire system is infected. I might have to completely clear my computer again.
There has to be some warning about this put on the site. I am so frustrated by this right now. I am running NOD antivirus as recommended and even it can not clear everything. I JUST reset my computer completely and now this is happening again and I am sure it is from a download on this site, because it happened right after a download from this site (mobile shell registration keygen this time) just venting, but so frustrated. --------- New Post Merged on 6/1/2009 at 10:02:57 -------- Update and this just get worse - I ONLY download from this site since the last complete reset of my computer and I saw this happening last night when downloading from this site. There needs to be a big warning about potential prunnet infections as this is the second I have gotten from here in 2 weeks. Here is the current problem. I can not get my laptop to boot all the way up. It gets close, gets to where I click on my username, I see my background image, but never the desktop icons or anything like that. It then shuts down XP like it is logging off and takes me back to the XP log in screen, where I can click on my username again, but it still wont completel the loggin in process. 1) I have Malwarebytes on my thumb drive, but the laptop will not read the thumb drive because the load of windows never finishes. 2) I have a Hiron emergency boot CD. on boot up I did try to boot from CD and ran the virus scan, but still wont complete windows loading. I have not done more then that with this CD because I do not know how to use all the utilities and programs on it. 3) when the computer was last working and before it shut down and would not come back again I was having tons of popups and it would not let me run programs, install Malwaregytes, etc. So right now my initial issue is this. I can not get it to complete boot up in regular OR safe mode. So something has been changed in the windows xp settings. Should I try to boot up and put in the windows xp disc and try to repair? I know this is a lot of info, but I am stuck. I can not post any log files here, because I cant get the computer to boot all the way up anymore. It gets close, but not all the way. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! Last edited by TVDinner; 01-06-2009 at 11:02 AM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

I know highly that it has nothing to do with the site when you download something from the site.I have a very a good server virus program that i used to detect any virus on the spot when its uploaded to the server and it either quarantine or it deletes it,and its on a constants scan. And any programs that comes with a crack when you download might read it as a virus when some program is not.Must hackers created a backdoor program to bypass the sign on or it will block access to the internet so you can continue access or ahve continue use with the program. Now you mention you use nod as your virus program.Me personality i dont like using it because it gives false positive on a virus which it's not and when there's an actual virus it wont detect it i have use many virus program and that NOD is junk.I can tell you I can scan my mother with that program and it's say that my mother is a virus...hahahaha just an example. and its detect her as a virus...and i know she's nto a virus. To get to the point to resolve your issue. It sounds like you are having hardware issues with your pc. #1 do you get a blue screen of death? Is your computer up to date with the latest form Microsoft? Try and use Hiren Utility.Reboot computer and and boot form the disk and hit the button. and in the utility get into the virus scan and try that. If that don't work then get yourself a xp disk and boot from the disk..Go to repair follow the commands like which boot installation you want to get in.In most cases it will be 1,If you did not created a password just it enter, but if you have created a password then enter it and hit enter when completed. In repair utility in the command line it should look something like this SYSTEM:\ type in chkdsk /r and once you do that, go and get something to eat or pay your bill or what ever it will take a while. It will scan and check for missing system file, and it will replace it. Good luck Last edited by elboriyorker; 01-06-2009 at 12:05 PM. |

Re: This site issues
Cod
Thank you for the info, suggestions, and feedback. To answer you questions 1) no blue screen of death 2) yes on everything updated with microsoft 3) see below about the hiron utility disc Here is what I/we did today. I have spent the past 5 hours at a friend's business. He owns one of the larger computer companies in our area. He is a good family friend, wont BS me, and his techs work on my laptop. In the end we could not repair it and we pulled the hard drive and using a usb adapter got all the files and info off it (put onto another computer and then burned the back up). We then put the hard drive back in the laptop and reformatted the entire computer for the second time in 2 weeks. I have another night of reinstalling photoshop, office and the other programs, but the computer should be clean again. They also looked at the hard drive config, sectors, etc. All seemed fine with that. We also looked at the threads here that seemed to be creating some of the issues. 1) My first crash came after trying to download the file in the Eminem album thread. You closed that thread because it DID contain a trojan/virus. 2) the mobile shell thread and specifically the upload jockey keygen link DID again cause pop ups and potential trojan click screens, etc. This was not on my laptop, but another computer. 2) the thread with the emergency hiren hacker recovery disc also set off alarms. The actual emergency disc I burned as instructed in that thread showed as infected with virses after 2 different and independent scans. We eventually just threw the disc and program away because it kept showing as infected. Now I am not saying that this site has bad files or anything like that. You know I love this site and am a supporter. It just has been a tough 2-3 weeks with one bad trojan infection and 2 complete crashes that required reformatting the entire computer. Hopefully this is the last time, lol |

It's all good, just a huge waste of time, lol
I did have 2 questions for you. 1) What virus program do you recommend. I have used AVG, NOD, etc 2) what spyware programs do you regularly run (like Malwarebytes or others)? Just curious what you use. Thanks for the knowledge. |

Re: This site issues
1. ok first of all the viruses that you said you got from here arent from here because none of the files were attached so how can they be from us.
2. if you arent using any protection or not setting it up correctly so you are protected against those sites than i would do that. (i have a pop-up that says this site may harm your computer are you re you want to continue?) 3. the ones that you are getting it from arent rapidshare, megaupload or any of those they are the foreign mirrors where everyone knows may have adware since there are mad apps everywhere for porn, programs, dating, etc..... 4. so basically my question to you is why are your troubles when its you that isnt protecting yourself from sites out there? if you think its us (and your the only one) than dont come back. |

To address your post above, my point was suggesting that maybe there should be a site wide general warning that some of the links could be dangerous. As I found out some of the links found on smj could take a person to a potentially dangerous site that could completely crash their computer. I listed the specific threads where the problems originated. The threads about the different programs and apps are here on smj. I understand that the link for the download was elsewhere, but I still started here. Finally I have multiple levels of protection, but thanks for bringing it up again. What infected my computer went right past the 3 different programs that had been suggested here and shut mysystem down. There was nothing that I could have done to stop what happened, but that is irrelevant at this point. you do not need to reply Dash, I know your feelings clearly. I am ready to move on and get back to customizing my WM phone and hopefully my laptop as well. |

Re: This site issues
ok just a note.... coming from a person who does backup recovery.... Its your pc that isn't protected CORRECTLY... For example, you have a virus protection... THAT DOESNT MEAN YOU ARE PROTECTED 100% just like CONDOMS! You can strap on, but nothing is for sure. I have done some investigation on the threads you mentioned and here is my conclusion. First and foremost, think of a virus protection as a Dictionary. The virus protection has a group of words/dictionary (list of virus). The virus protection is constantly scanning your PC for those words (list of viruses) Understand that a VIRUS protection like Norton, MCaffee, etc. All they are doing is reading words (list of virus). Thats why there are updates for virus definitions. If the virus protections dictionary is up to date, that doesnt mean when it detects it, it will stop it. Most of the time they can quarantine or delete them. Others will just be picked up and not deleted. Now the best thing to do is have a Application that monitors what is trying to get installed in to your registry ir startup etc. I personally use Spysweeper with built in Antivirus. Now this app is a little advanced. For example, If you install it and then you were to try and install a common app like adobe reader, nero, etc. This app detects EVERYTHING. YOU MAKE THE DECISION on whether or not to accept or decline what the app is telling you it has found. That is just an example of how Sensitive it can be. I highly recommend it and recommend you use something similar to it. Back to the Antivirus reading scanning your pc for files that it believes is a virus based on its database. Most files that help you install an app correctly, (think about that, got it? good!) virus protection may find it as a mail ware or virus but in the end its not. Its just helping you install it correctly. the virus protection just had that file name in its dictionary of virus's when in fact it wasn't. Hope this helps ..... BiG JeW's 101.... next class wont be free! HOLLA!

Re: This site issues
second that!! I've been using Webroot SpySweeper with built in AntiViris and Webroot Desktop firewall for a few years now. This app goes hardcore. I second the recommendation and with this hopefully allow you to go where ever your curiousity may take you without worry.
