Gps settings/not working
ok after flashing to the Dette Touch ROM the other night, my touch is running bad a**, and I love it!!! one thing is my GPS, Google Maps won't work, it will search for Satellites forever and never find them, I've searched the web and the forum and still haven't come up with the solution, sorry if this has been discussed before!!!! Seems like it's hard to find exactly YOUR situation sometimes?
thanks so much!!! :connie_mykilroy: |

Re: Gps settings/not working
YES, I have the Touch, just got it, Dash helped me flash my ROM two nites ago, and I flashed to the Dette Touch Rom, I don't know if it has the "built in" GPS receiver or not? I can't find the Alltel Nav I've read about in my searches on my phone? I don't know if that ROM came built in it or not? what do I need to do? Is there an app for that that I need to dl? thanks for your help!

Re: Gps settings/not working
yes the alltel version has it built in and for the first time you may have to run outside in clear skys and can take a while to connect for the first time... i would try stepping ouitside and than see what that does for you connection wise.

Re: Gps settings/not working
Hey Angie~
Well speakin as a touch owner i can tell you gettin that first lock is a real pain, but it does work (as long as you have the 6.1 update w/ reva and gps, which im sure you do if your using dettes latest custom and d?|sh help you to flash) it does get easier after you get it the first time... like D/\SH... your going to want to try it out side or in a big open area w/ large windows etc... and make sure your getting good phone signal in general, the better your signal the better your chances, I know from experience if your trying to do it, when your down to like one or tow bars, it wont want to wok with you... also try downloading an app called "gps veiwer' and running it... that should help with boosting signal and aid in the satelitte finding process... also have you tried using a different GPS program like live search or something, when I first did it, i couldnt get google maps to work for the life of me, and it didnt start working until after i got my first signal with a whole other GPs program (i cant remeber if i used live search or sprints telenav) but its just a suggestion... hope this helps! |

Re: Gps settings/not working
ok I've been at this now for 2 hours, not counting the time I spent on it today at work, LOL! I've done everything! I've done the "live search", went outside, INSTALLED AND RUN that tutorial found at PPC "alltel GPS with A-GPS" program thing..........
STILL NOTHING, WILL NOT LOCK IN ON NO SATELLITES AT ALL!!! Also when I click on "use GPS" it searches and searches, then I click "My Location" and it tells me "your handset does not seem to be compatible with My Location (beta) feature" what the he**???? and when I do the Live Search for "pizza" it's stuck on fricking Sydney AUSTRALIA!!! it tells me when all the pizza joints are there? WHAT IS UP WITH THIS? I would really like to put this problem to bed, but am at my wits END!!!!!!!!!!! Last edited by angiekay; 01-29-2009 at 09:15 PM. |

can they tell I flashed my ROM, if I don't tell them? I mean I don't want to void my warranty or anything, you know? |

Re: Gps settings/not working
just dont tell them that you flashed the rom.... if they decide to send you another one in return ofr the defective unit than all you have to do flash back to the latest alltel stock rom off of their site and you are done :>

OMG, are they serious, I have to pay the $9.99 a month to get this? WTF???? what is the deal? I'm not believing this!!! --------- New Post Merged on 30/1/2009 at 11:21:58 -------- I'm just thinking that maybe when I get home, I'm going to hard reset and see if that straightens up most of my problems (GPS), since I started messing with the GPS settings and doing the A-GPS thing from PPC my phone seems to be "gliching" off and on. just seems a little laggy at times, nothing serious, but I think I just need to "start over" and install the apps that I can't live without. when I do the Hard Reset will I have to install the Alltel carrier cab again with the Dette ROM that I flashed to? or will it still be there? thanks for everyone's help, I seriously don't know how I could ever live without Wckediden now!!!!! Re: Gps settings/not working
[quote=angiekay;334905]OK, spoke to Alltel's advanced data tech support this morning, and they are telling me I have to call TeleNav to get that "GPS positioning" to work on my phone!!!!!!!!!
OMG, are they serious, I have to pay the $9.99 a month to get this? WTF???? what is the deal? I'm not believing this!!! I was wondering if you were able to get this to work? I just received a replacement 6800, and I'm not able to get the gps to work either...Stock rom, but it worked perfectly on my old unit. If fact I couldn't find a true GPS that was faster. WELCOME TO VERIZON.... I was told that they lock everything the phone is capable of, then charge you to use the built in items... I thought that they were being sued over this not long ago. I guess money talks.... |

:pacnic: All, the problem is funny at best. I have a Garmin, a fairly new one at that. My 6800, with gps toggle installed would lock on in about 5 seconds, my Garmin would take at least a minute or more. Also the real time tracking with Gmaps was great... For further discussion, I have installed GPS Toggle, and cannot even get it to load.:rambo:>>>Freakin phone companies... |

[quote=D/\SH;338165]see obviously something that's over my head!!! that's why I gave up on it awhile back, now I'm finally finding out that Alltel has this "blocked" from being useable on my phone!!!!!!!!! Yea, ok, I did the search on the unlocker for GPS too, nothing? so who knows? I know I can be a problem child sometimes!!!!!!!!!!

well what is it? I didn't even notice that until you said it! --------- New Post Merged on 10/2/2009 at 07:58:03 -------- OK, so got bored during the "down time" and was over at XDA checking some stuff out, and there's like an "upgrade" that alltel has out that says............ "This ROM updates the operating system to Windows Mobile 6.1 and adds GPS capabilities. All previous updates and fixes such as EVDO Rev A compatibility are included." NOW, does that mean that IF I were to flash BACK to the original Alltel ROM and run this update thingy, it would "unlock" my GPS????? Still haven't figured out how or where the "unlock" GPS thread is for Alltel Touch?? Last edited by angiekay; 02-10-2009 at 08:57 PM. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |
