A Little info bout building a pc
wassup Wckediden fam!!
here's the deal, im trying to build my own pc, i have no experience whatsoever, just watched a couple vids from youtube and read a few articles here and there. Now i think and i believe i can do this, here's my wish list at newegg. https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/MySavedWishDetail.aspx?ID=10920212 another is my cousin was back overseas and when he got back last week he has a cd of windows xp with the serial key written on the cd, he said he bought it of one of the bootleg vendor thingy over there. he said he'd bought 2 of the cd and he used the first one to upgrade the pc he has at home. now question.... is there any suggestions that i can get from y'all bout the parts that i have? any other that might cost lower than what ive picked up, my budget is just 300 or less if i can for a decent pc, mainly ill just use the pc for surfing and probly little bit of games, and also dvd burning. and also i wont get into trouble with the xp os unless i do an online update right? or wouldnt it matter at all? thanks y'all for any info help that you guys could give. ****looking for the option to code my link but i cant find it, can anyone code it for me... thanks! |

Re: A Little info bout building a pc
Here is my take on helping you out. Firstly my tip is always go Intel for the CPU and secondly NEVER use a power supply that comes with a case. The power supply is the most important thing in building a computer... you don't want to go cheap on it cause if it shorts/fails then it might take your whole computer with it(tends to happen with cheap PSUs). So you should invest on a good power supply(I recommend corsair/pc&power cooling)
1. hard drive. For the hard drive if you search good enough or if you wait for sales on newegg you could get a much higher capacity drive for the same or a little more money(depends if you like rebates also). Trust me you will regret not getting a bigger one...When you format the drive the full 320gb is not what you will get.. once widows is on and formatted it will be around 220-250gb free (estimate :P ) 2. Case I would not recommend you get that case... it will feel really cheap and bend easily( trust me I've ordered cheap ones before... feels like they will crush like a can of soda) it gives it no support for the motherboard and you could risk bending it. Also those 60mm fans will be to loud... You would be much better off with 120mm fans they are much quieter and push more air I would recommend looking for antec, cooler master, or thermaltake( thats what I use) cheap line of cases... the case depends on if you plan to have a microatx or atx MB also if you plan on putting in a aftermarket cpu heatsink or video card. 3. motherboard is a so-so price but I would recommend Asus(I use that) or GIGABYTE. 4. cpu Can't really base anything on it since I don't see a price on it. but like I said Intel all the way lol /fanboi Also its a really outdated cpu you are much better off grabbing a kuma http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103300 5.RAM Its good but you could do better :P I got 8gb for that price ddr2 it cheap ass hell but I think the inventory is starting to dry up and prices are going a little up since ddr3 is getting more mainstream. I remember back a few months you could get 4gb for $10 after rebates. 6. optical drive Its perfect but seems sold out :/ might also want to look at samsung make sure to get a sata one though... less cable management. Don't go more than $30ish on this. 7. cooling compound I use Tuniq TX-2 myself and I would recommend it to anyone on par with artic silver5 ok, so do i need to get a better power supply or is the one on the case gonna be ok, Like I said get a decent power supply...but if you do get what you had in mine then it would be sufficient as long as you don't add anymore hard drives or video cards or sound cards. another there's like 2 fans on the case would i need to get more cooling system?? it should at least have an intake fan and two exhaust that would be good enough but like i said 60mm could get pretty loud in a quite room. Overall just take my words as advice/opinion. If you don't need a gaming pc or video editing... then your build seems to be fine... I didn't do the calculations of all the parts but if it start hovering above $350 then you could do better than your current build for a much snappier setup p.s. If you plan on overclocking your cpu plan on getting a aftermarket heatsink I recommend the XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 Last edited by Metalmayhem; 06-15-2009 at 05:38 AM. |

I have a Quad core, Quad processor its called the 4x4 and I have no problems running any games or any apps on it and I run lots of demanding apps such as corel draw3d and macro media and so on and so fourth.

Re: A Little info bout building a pc
If you're only trying to spend 300$ on a pc that's a little wonky :( Even decent builds are at least $500. I say you should toss in more money and at least spend a little more so it'll be worth it in the end. Add more Ram and Hard drive capacity. It's always better to add a little more so you don't have to go back later and be like "crap I shoulda built this better" Also, just wait for Windows 7 to come out, xp is pointless now.
Good Luck :D |
