Internal Storage Issue - only on XP (GSM)
Hi
Firstly I have read every thread about the Touch Diamond's Internal Storage and am well aware that there is a solution to its disappearance. However I think it only works on Vista machines. I am running XP and when I connect via USB, the external drive never appears like it was suggested it would in this thread: (not enough posts yet to attach links, but thread is: [ ISSUE SOLVED ] 4GB Internal storage gone) I want to use these instructions but I cant format the drive if it never shows up! Does anyone know how to make it appear or how I can get around it. I am a noob, but I felt that this was different enough for it to be allowed a new thread, as I am on XP. Sorry if not. Like I said, I have searched and read all the threads that came up and ICEM/\N's solution does look spot on as long as I can get the drive to appear. Thanks guys! |

Re: Internal Storage Issue - only on XP (GSM)
I have tried that, but it comes up with an error message saying:
The Mass Storage cannot be accessed. Real pain in the neck. |

Re: Internal Storage Issue - only on XP (GSM)
are you plugging the diamond into a usb hub or one of the front usb ports on your computer? if so...plug it into one of the back ports as they are directly connected to the comp. Another this is make sure you are using the Diamond usb cable and not just a generic miniusb cord.

I hadnt thought of that, but it hasn't helped matters I'm afraid. Do you think its anything to do with XP? I thought XP and Vista were pretty similar only Vista copied mac for style.

Re: Internal Storage Issue - only on XP (GSM)
you shouldnt have any troubles with xp but check your firewall and virus protection and try to disable them for a second and see if that allows it to go through without the troubles and connect.

Re: Internal Storage Issue - only on XP (GSM)
Sadly my anti-virus and firewall arent making a difference either. Im supposing that when I connect via USB it would show up like a USB does, that is correct isnt it? Doesnt the internal storage connection have to go via the phone, not a direct connection to the pc?
It seems more and more likely I will have to send it back and I know they will claim its due to being dropped or something because there's damage to the case. Angry. Thanks for the suggestions guys! I was hoping to unlock it and flash the Rhodium rom onto it. Hmmm, Im not going to give up on it yet actually. |

Re: Internal Storage Issue - only on XP (GSM)
Do you reckon there might be any programs I can download that will be able to recognise my Internal Storage through the USB? Something which is more sensitive or something?
It's so weird because it didnt happen from a hard reset, it happened because I accidentally left the camera program on and it sort of crashed. I did a soft reset and it all disappeared. |

Re: Internal Storage Issue - only on XP (GSM)
cool, nice one, i will give that a go then! i will let you know how it works and report back on the program in case anyone is interested!
--------- New Post Merged on 12/8/2009 at 07:26:44 -------- Nope, that hasnt worked either. Could it be a hardware problem? Anyone know what the inside of a diamond looks like??? --------- New Post Merged on 12/8/2009 at 07:46:49 -------- OK, if anyone fancies knowing what the Diamond looks like opened its on PPC Geeks. forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=55794 Doesnt really help me, I dont know what I was thinking to be honest. I dont think replacing a chip is going to do anything. --------- New Post Merged on 12/8/2009 at 08:27:26 -------- For ICEM/\N: its GSM version and my pc is XP although I have also tried on Vista with no luck. ActiveSync still works normally, but nothing appears when Disk Drive option is selected. I think its right royally buggered now, I went to hard reset and pressed volume down because I thought "what the hell?!" and now its stuck on the clearing MoviNAND screen somewhat predictably. This phone is heading right back to where it came from now. I am just fed up with this problem. Thanks to everyone for their help over the past few days, and to anyone who might be unfortunate enough to have this problem, just take it back. Last edited by BWHeseltine; 08-12-2009 at 09:27 PM. Re: Internal Storage Issue - only on XP (GSM)
Yeah, I'm really sorry about that, and its no reflection on you guys at all. I just think something horrible and somehow irreparable has happened in my phone and I dont understand it. Also I think it was quite late and I was just getting really frustrated. Something should have worked by now, there have been so many suggestions.

Re: Internal Storage Issue - only on XP (GSM)
yeah....lol, I feel the same way ven....I hate not solving issues too...but it would be easier to diagnose the issue myself if the device were in front of me...as I do not have a GSM touch diamond it is hard to pinpoint the issue as I could access the CDMA version from a friend and maybe figure the problem....give me a sec to look into this some more before you take it back....

Re: Internal Storage Issue - only on XP (GSM)
also...how did you end up with issue again...did you do a hard reset, did you start to unlock your phone or try to flash a new rom on it...or were you on a factory rom and just one day you could not see your internal storage?
I mean the 4gb memory unmounted itself from the phones system and this usually happens when, like venum said, you use another non-original mini usb cable or if you use a usb hub and are not plugged into the computer directly....in laymans terms, the phone acts as if the computer is still synced to the phone and does not show you the internal storage on device as it would do if it were still synced...but what is weird is that you cannot see it to reformat when u plug it into pc...try this.....try plugging and unplugging your device into the computer with your cable numerous times in the same method you had originally done....I just want to test a theory.... also...hard reset - Connect to PC, Once connected as a USB Drive, VERY IMPORTANT - Don't try to open drive, only right click. Choose Format, FAT32, Quick Format. It took about 5 seconds, then soft reset and it is up....maybe you have been trying to open the disk drive in those steps....is that why? Re: Internal Storage Issue - only on XP (GSM)
Don't worry, it's not going back for a couple of weeks, I need it for the next 2 weeks to act as a modem while I'm away. The issue came about after I had been taking a photo, I forgot to turn the camera app off, left the phone for a while with the screen off, when I turned it back on the whole thing was pretty much frozen, so I did a soft reset. That was the first I knew of the problem. Theres a possibility that I may have used a non-htc usb cable later that day, but I dont think its very likely. Never used a hub or anything though. Why would the phone react differently to a non-original cable? Aren't they all the same at the end of the day?
The phone and software is and was all factory standard. I didnt even know I could change it until I started looking for solutions. Will try to keep plugging and unplugging. Before I do anymore hard resets, is there a way to keep SMS messages? Can't find where they are stored on my phone. --------- New Post Merged on 13/8/2009 at 08:16:47 -------- Oh yeah, and even after the hard reset, there's no drive to right click on. All I get is the Mobile Device, which if I right-click on, only lets me Open, Explode and Create Shortcut. But in the past the drive has always come up in removable media.
