Have to wait for the Hero

I can mod a computer until the cows come home, but have never done anything with a smartphone before. Was going to trash my Telus (in Canada) account and get an HTC Hero when it comes available next month, but I've become a victim of the economy and must make my Touch work a while longer. In an effort to make it a little more appealing, I'm looking to modify it away from the norm and have some fun.
I look forward to reading through as much as I can to find out how to do this as safely as possible.

I would say if your really interested in the Hero I would give the android vogue port a try its really came a long way the one im using on my touch looks alot like the hero sense it has the flip clock and weather feature. Though some stuff went on with google and they had to pull down any build that had google apps in it or something like that but you can still downlaod them all anyways but if you would like I could even send you the batch of files I am using on my vogue sense it would have had anything that got pulled sense Im still on one of the older more stable Cupcake Ion Builds. Hit me up if you wanna go that route.
