Samsungs faster LPDDR5X RAM can be used with MediaTeks flagship chip
Samsung, the world leader in the memory chip segment, has announced that its faster LPDDR5X DRAM chips are certified to be used with MediaTek's upcoming flagship smartphone chip, the Dimensity 9400.
This is positive news for the company, as Chinese brands recently started to prefer SK Hynix's memory with MediaTek's current-generation flagship processor. Samsung 10.7Gbps LPDDR5X DRAM is certified for MediaTek Dimensity 9400 Samsung has completed the verification process for its newest LPDDR5X DRAM chip to be used with the MediaTek Dimensity 9400 processor. The South Korean firm's newest DRAM chip has data transfer speeds of up to 10.7Gbps, the highest in the industry. So, smartphones that use MediaTek's next-generation flagship chip, the Dimensity 9400, can be equipped with Samsung's new memory chips. The verification test was done using a 16GB LPDDR5X DRAM package with the Dimensity 9400. Samsung says the two companies collaborated closely to complete the verification in just three months. These new memory chips have 25% improved power efficiency and performance compared to previous-generation LPDDR5X DRAM chips. Faster speeds and lower power consumption results in longer battery life and faster performance for on-device AI tasks and other general tasks. Since more phones and tablets are now coming equipped with AI-powered features, the need for high-performance memory chips has increased drastically. Competitors Micron and SK Hynix have DRAM chips that can reach data transfer speeds of up to 9.6Gbps. SK Hynix terms its chips as LPDDR5T, while Micron continues to use the LPDDR5X spec for branding. Dimensity 9400 specifications The MediaTek Dimensity 9400 is a 3nm chip (made by TSMC) and was announced a few months ago. While the chip hasn't been detailed completely yet, rumors claim that it features an 8-core CPU with Cortex-X5 core clocked at 3.4GHz, three Cortex-X4 cores running at 2.9GHz, and four Cortex-A720 cores clocked at 2.27GHz. It is said to feature the Immortalis G925 GPU with faster ray-tracing performance in games. It will compete with Qualcomm's upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 processor and Samsung's Exynos 2500 chipset. Both these chips are also rumored to be fabricated using a 3nm process. Watch our Galaxy Z Fold 6 hands-on experience in the video below. YongCheol Bae, Executive Vice President of Memory Product Planning at Samsung Electronics, said, “Through our strategic cooperation with MediaTek, Samsung has verified the industrys fastest LPDDR5X DRAM that is poised to lead the AI smartphone market. Samsung will continue to innovate through active collaboration with customers and provide optimum solutions for the on-device AI era.“ The post Samsung’s faster LPDDR5X RAM can be used with MediaTek’s flagship chip appeared first on SamMobile.
