One UI 6.1.1 starts rolling out to Galaxy S24 in the USA
Last week, Samsung announced that it will soon release the One UI 6.1.1 update to the Galaxy S24 series, and the update was released in South Korea. Now, the company has started rolling out the update in two more countries: China and USA. Other countries could soon get the One UI 6.1.1 update for the Galaxy S24.
Galaxy S24 gets One UI 6.1.1 update in USA Samsung has started rolling out the One UI 6.1.1 update to the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra in China*and the USA. The update comes with firmware version S9280ZHU3AXH7 in China and S928USQU3AXH7 in the US. The update released in the USA is for the carrier-locked versions of Galaxy S24 series devices. It is a major update with a download size of over 2.8GB. In both countries, the update comes with the August 2024 security patch instead of the September 2024 security patch. The screenshot below is for the One UI 6.1.1 update for the Galaxy S24 Ultra on T-Mobile's network in the USA. If you have a Galaxy S24 series phone and live in China or the USA, you can now check for the One UI 6.1.1 update on your device. To do that, open the Settings app, navigate to Software update, and tap Download and install. What is new with the One UI 6.1.1 update on Galaxy S24? The update brings several new Galaxy AI features, including Sketch to Image, Portrait Studio, improvements to Composer, Live Translate support in third-party calling and messaging apps, and Listening Mode for Interpreter. You can see the complete One UI 6.1.1 changelog here. Most of those new features are explained in our detailed One UI 6.1.1 video below. The One UI 6.1.1 update also brings the ability to translate text found in images on webpages. In Samsung Notes, your voice recording can be transcribed into text, and that text can then be edited, summarized, and translated. Text inside PDF files can be summarized and translated without the need to convert those PDF files into notes. In voice recordings, the language of the voice is automatically detected so that it can then be translated, transcribed, and summarized. You can edit that text and even edit the voice recording itself to remove unwanted sections. Wallpapers now have special effects to showcase the current weather. One UI 6.1.1 also brings Live Effects to portrait photos. It also brings improvements to Instant Slo Mo: you can instantly save the portion of the video that you slowed down. And when you share that video, the last section of the video that you slowed down is available for sharing. Objects and subjects in Motion Photos can be clipped and shared as animated GIFs. Image Clipper now allows you to clip multiple items from an image. Samsung Health brings support for Energy Score, new wellness tips, encouragement, more detailed sleep analysis, custom workout routines, support for cycling power meters (FTP), and the ability to share your health data with your family members. When you select something on the screen using Smart Select, suggested actions are shown based on what you've selected. For example, you can call a selected phone number, locate address in Google Maps, or enhance an image. One UI 6.1.1 lets you hold a picture-in-picture video window and drag it to the portion of the screen where you want it to continue playing in a side-by-side multitasking view. In the Calendar app, you can highlight important dates using the straight-line highlighter pen. You can delete highlighted sections without disturbing other pen marks. Samsung Calendar now also supports lunar calendar birthdays (and other repeating events). A new UI improvement is brought when copying or moving files using the My Files app. You can create shortcuts to files on the home screen by dragging those files in the My Files app and using your other hand to navigate to the home screen and dropping files there. In the My Files app, image and video thumbnails appear in the correct aspect ratio. Modes & Routines now supports more actions for your Galaxy Watch:
Samsung has also taken inspiration from iOS 17 to let you create your own contact cards and appearances. You can add your name or picture to your contact card, and those details will be visible to other Galaxy users when you call them or when they call you. You can choose to tap the screen to accept the call instead of swiping it (which is the default setting). You can skim through videos faster by double-tapping the screen on the right side to forward by 5 seconds and double-tapping on the left side of the screen to rewind the video by 5 seconds. The Weather app now updates more frequently to notify you of changes in the weather. You can set Auto Blocker to the maximum setting for extra secure settings. When you do this, links and automatic downloading of files are disabled in Messages. Location data is removed from pictures and videos you share, and Shared Albums can't be used in the Gallery app. You can open the Quick Panel with just one tap in One UI 6.1.1. You also get greater control over physical buttons. You can use the Assistant menu to press and hold or double press the side button.
